Responsibilities

Cedar Ridge Behavioral Hospital (a UHS facility) provides inpatient and residential treatment services for youth ages 5‑17 and inpatient, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient services for adults ages 18+. The facility includes a 206‑bed acute psychiatric hospital and residential treatment center with a wooded campus, pond, school, gym, courtyard, and playground.

The Mental Health Technician (MHT) provides direct care and supervision for residents, ensuring their safety, teaching hygiene and self‑help skills, and reinforcing program rules and expectations. MHTs act as role models for residents, demonstrating effective problem‑solving and decision‑making. They may also assist with recreational and therapeutic activities, transport residents to medical appointments, and help maintain scheduled programming. Duties are performed in accordance with the ANA Standards of Practice for Psychiatric Mental Health Care and the facility’s policies and behavioral standards.

MHTs report to the Milieu Manager under the direction of the Chief Nursing Officer.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent – required
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or related field – preferred
  • Six months to one year of experience working with a psychiatric inpatient population – preferred
  • Must be able to work an 8‑hour day, standing and walking for prolonged periods
  • Must pass a drug test and a national background check
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Physical agility to manage patients, including the ability to push, pull, and lift up to 40 pounds
  • Strong computer skills, excellent communication skills, and strong leadership skills
  • Exposure to psychiatric patients who may exhibit violent or aggressive behavior
  • Potential for exposure to communicable diseases, blood/body fluids, and other hazardous waste
