Position: Software Engineer–Developer (Experienced and Senior)

Overview

Software Engineer – Developer (Experienced and Senior) at The Boeing Company. The role is in the B-52J CERP – Flight Software team in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. It focuses on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Software Engineering organization. The program provides modern engines and related functions for the B-52 Bomber. The Flight Software team is responsible for collecting data from new engines and displaying it to pilots in the cockpit.

The selected engineer will design, develop, and integrate software in an agile, collaborative environment and will also design and develop software tools to aid in flight software development. The position requires strong interpersonal skills, self‑motivation, and the ability to resolve technical challenges clearly and concisely.

Position Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain non‑embedded software throughout the end‑to‑end lifecycle, meeting industry, customer, safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Review, analyze, and translate customer requirements into initial software design.
  • Develop, maintain, enhance, and optimize software products and functionalities for system integrations.
  • Develop, document, and maintain architecture, requirements, algorithms, interfaces, and designs for software products.
  • Debug and resolve issues identified to ensure the reliability and efficiency of software products.
  • Handle user inquiries, troubleshoot technical issues, and analyze user feedback.
  • Implement current and emerging technologies, tools, frameworks, and regulatory changes relevant to software development.
  • Develop, establish, monitor, and improve software processes, tools, and key performance metrics aligned with organizational goals.
  • Execute and document software research and development projects.
  • Advise on software domains, system‑specific issues, processes, and regulations.
  • Perform software project management activities and supplier management functions.
  • Track and evaluate software team and supplier performance to ensure compliance with project plans and industry standards.
Basic Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in ADA.
  • 3+ years of experience in Python.
  • 3+ years of experience in real‑time operating systems (RTOS) such as VxWorks, HVP, Wind River.
  • 3+ years of experience building Docker images, Git Lab CI/CD pipelines, VXWorks Workbench, Git, VSCode devcontainers.
  • 3+ years of experience in SAFE Agile and Git Lab.
  • Knowledge of specification formats, guidelines, and change‑control processes.
  • Understanding of the relationship between specifications/standards and aircraft/product certification systems.
  • Knowledge of host environments, processors, operating systems, and networks.
  • Ability to build, integrate, and troubleshoot software components.
  • Knowledge of software programming languages, databases, and their application in the software domain.
  • Knowledge of requirement derivation, allocation, and traceability across the product lifecycle.
  • Knowledge of software architecture and design methodologies.
  • Knowledge of software development processes in compliance with internal and industry standards.
  • Knowledgeable in tools such as compilers, linkers, debuggers, data analysis tools, GUI builders, and requirements management tools.
  • Drug‑free workplace commitment; all employees are required to pass drug testing.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in engineering, engineering technology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • Experience with ADA programming language.
  • 3+ years of related work experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • 5+ years of related work experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Knowledge of domain constraints and products that influence software architecture, requirements, interfaces, design, and integration/test approaches.
  • Knowledge of supplier assessment processes, including preferred supplier certification and work‑transfer processes.
  • Ability to control and deliver project deliverables, project accounting, and appraisal using project management tools.
  • Knowledge of implementation, validation, and verification processes and guidelines to ensure software quality, performance, and safety.
