Job Description

PAY AND FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT (FLSA) STATUS:

Pay Range: 860

Hourly Rate: $13.00 - $14.25

FLSA Status:
Non-Exempt

The normal starting pay for this position is the minimum of the pay range listed above. A higher rate of pay may be considered, dependent on the qualifications and experience of the selected applicant.

HIRING INCENTIVE (Effective April 15, 2026, to September 10, 2026)

  • $50 - Applicant must complete all mandatory training, including orientation, and work all scheduled shifts during first month of active status.

Note: All approved incentives are contingent upon employee being in good standing without performance issues.

, to be held Wednesday, March 25, 2026, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at Metro Tech, 1900 Springlake Drive, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73111. Interview questions are included in the supplemental questions. Upon receiving and accepting a job offer, applicants will be referred for drug testing (as applicable based on position) that will be conducted on-site as part of the City’s background process for employment.

Criminal history checks will also be obtained following the event as part of the background process.

  • This position requires applicants to be at least 16 years of age at the time of application submission.

POSITION DESIGNATION

This job classification has been designated as a safety sensitive job classification in accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, 63 O.S., § 427.1 (OSCN 2019), effective August 29, 2019. This means employees in this job classification can be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even if they possess a medical marijuana license.

JOB SUMMARY

This job is located in the Recreation, Health, and Wellness Division of the Parks and Recreation Department within the City of Oklahoma City. This position is responsible for monitoring activities at a municipal swimming facility, protecting the safety of all swimmers, and providing emergency care when needed.
Typical duties include
: observing swimmers and enforcing rules and regulations of the facility; cautioning swimmers regarding unsafe practices and safety hazards; maintaining order in the pool and adjoining areas; rescuing swimmers in distress or in danger of drowning; and providing rescue breathing, CPR, and First Aid. Other duties may include: maintaining a safe/clean swim environment, indoor and outdoor, which includes cleaning restrooms, picking up trash, emptying trash cans and securing the areas.

The necessary skills, knowledge, and ability and/or licenses and certifications to perform departmental specific tasks must be acquired within the first month of assuming the position.
