Position Summary
The primary responsibility of a Bus Driver in Training will be to complete the required training to obtain a CDL license and a Bus Driver Certification from the State Department of Education in a time‑frame of 60 days of being hired. During this time‑frame employees must show progress based on the judgment of the Supervisor or Director; if progress is not shown the employee is subject to termination.
Once the CDL License and Certification are obtained the transfer will be submitted for the employee to become a full‑time Bus Driver with benefits.

- This position has been classified as Safety Sensitive in accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act and/or the Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). and Board Policy G-37-R3 Medical Marijuana & Safety Sensitive Positions Regulation. All candidates selected for hire or transferred into a Safety Sensitive position must undergo and pass a pre‑employment drug screen before being hired or transferred.
Employees holding safety‑sensitive positions may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment, if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even if they possess a medical marijuana license. - Drives in a safe and legal manner.
- Observes all City, State, and Federal Laws relating to school buses. Enforces thus laws, policies and regulations applicable to school buses.
- Meets established time schedules, follows established routes and drives in a safe and legal manner.
- Inspects assigned vehicle for defects daily and reports vehicle condition to Supervisor. Maintains cleanliness of assigned vehicle.
- Completes necessary paperwork and reports as instructed by Supervisor.
- Works effectively with others to dispense information and to solve problems.
- Attends designated training sessions, workshops and meetings.
- Maintains manner of personal dress and hygiene consistent with Departmental Guidelines and effective job performance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Must possess a Commercial Driver License (CDL) Permit of the appropriate class for the vehicle driven with a school bus (S) and a passenger (P) endorsement.
- Must obtain a School Bus Driving Certificate issued by the State Department of Education (SDE) within 90 days of hire.
- Current Motor Vehicle Report must meet established safe driving criteria.
- Requires knowledge of City streets and the ability to read maps and written instructions.
- CPR and First Aid Certification preferred.
- Must be willing and available to work a split shift.
Physical Requirements
- Able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
- Exhibit manual dexterity to enter data into a computer.
- Ability to see and read street signs and printed material with or without vision aids.
- Hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone.
- Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors and on the telephone.
- Physical agility, able to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach.
- Ability to lift, push, pull up to 75 pounds.
