The Transportation Motor Pool Yard Dog (Yard Jockey) is a logistics and fleet operations role focused on level 10 maintenance, moving, organizing, and maintaining care of the transportation motor pool area. This position ensures that area and surrounding bus equipment is safe, and in the right place to support transportation operations.
Responsibilities- Consistently communicate with bus dispatchers, schedulers, and TMP supervisors for updated rotating duties and responsibilities.
- Understand the logistics role that may blend driving (where applicable), equipment maintenance, and fleet coordination to maintain operations moving smoothly.
- Conduct safety checks on assigned vehicles and equipment on a rotational basis.
- Assist in vehicle servicing, fueling, and minor repairs as needed.
- Work closely with dispatchers, schedulers, and TMP supervisors to ensure buses and other vehicles are operational.
- Work closely with bus drivers to ensure buses are operational and topped off with fluids, and maintenance conditions prior to operations, and continuously throughout the day.
- Maintain clean, clear, and organized motor pool operating areas.
- Discuss the condition of equipment and parts with TMP Operations Supervisor, under the guidance of Transportation manager.
- Regularly check yard vehicles, and subsequent safety equipment for deficient items.
- Operate yard equipment, when necessary, to effectively position GSA fleet and buses within the yard, using spatial awareness to navigate tight spaces.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Proficiency in motor pool operations, and familiarity with motorized equipment.
- Ability to pass Pre-Employment Drug Test and Background Screening.
- Ability to receive a favorable TIER-1 investigation result, obtain and maintain a CAC.
- Applicant must possess a REAL
-compliant, state-issued driver’s license.
Qualifications:
- Commercial Driver’s License with P and X endorsement preferred.
- Previous Rail Operations Experience preferred.
- Lifting and Carrying:
Frequently lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying heavy objects, sometimes up to 45 pounds. - Mobility and Balance:
Extensive walking (up to 10 kilometers a day), climbing up/down, bending, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. - Strength and Endurance:
Using muscles for long periods, including working in cramped or awkward spaces. - Environmental Factors:
Working in extreme hot or cold temperatures, in all weather conditions, and with exposure to loud noise or vibration. - Safety and Sensory Needs:
Must possess good, sometimes aided, vision (including color distinction) and hearing, as well as the ability to climb on and off moving or stationary equipment.
This position is contingent upon contract award and funding. Applicants selected may be hiredoffered but cannot begin work until funding has been confirmed
