Position: Adventure Cabin & Activities Counselor
Location: Big Cabin

Camp Fern Legacy – Seasonal Staff Positions

Camp Fern Legacy offers a range of seasonal positions for counselors, kitchen staff, maintenance, stable hands, and more. Roles involve leading activities, teaching classes, preparing meals, maintaining camp infrastructure, and caring for horses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Campus Counselor / Cabin & Activity Counselor
    • Lead and teach activities such as swimming, horseback riding, crafts, sports, and classroom instruction.
    • Manage cabin operations and develop relationships with campers.
    • Coordinate with program directors and department heads to ensure safety compliance and quality programming.
  • Kitchen Staff
    • Prep and cook meals for up to 150 campers and staff each meal.
    • Maintain kitchen operations and dining hall flow.
    • Operate in an outdoor environment; may require a Texas Food Handler or Food Manager license.
  • Grounds & Maintenance Team
    • Perform plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting, preventive maintenance, groundskeeping, and vehicle service.
    • Operate camp vehicles; must have a valid driver’s license and be 21+ years old.
  • Stable Hand
    • Assist with grooming, feeding, stabling, and exercising horses.
    • Support horse program operations and maintain stables cleanliness.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 18 years old.
  • Mentally and physically ready for a busy, active summer with early mornings and weekend shifts.
  • Team player with a can‑do attitude.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in summer heat.
  • Kitchen position: require or be willing to obtain a Texas Food Handler or Food Manager license.
  • Maintenance position: prefer 2+ years of experience; must lift 50 lbs and operate camp vehicles.
  • Stable hand: genuine interest in horse care and ability to perform physically demanding work.
