Salary Range:$14.00 - $50.00
** DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS OF WORK
** The Counselor assists the Camp or Site Director in overseeing the daily day to day operations of all camp or facility activities. In the absence of the Camp Director or Site Director or senior full-time staff, the Counselor assumes all duties and responsibilities of the program.
** ESSENTIAL EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
** The following illustrates examples of some of the essential duties and responsibilities of the Counselor Part-Time. There may be other essential functions, not listed below, in order to accomplish the tasks as presented by the Supervisor.
• Implement daily programs and activities under the direction of the Camp or Site Director for all program participants.
• Communicate with parents/guardians.
• Uphold all City of Hialeah policies and procedures including those related to safety and risk management.
• Maintain daily attendance records on all participants.
• May supervise recreation leaders.
• May supervise groups of participants.
• Plans and prepares a creative learning environment.
• Maintain and clean program areas.
• Establish and maintain good relationships with parents and staff.
• Plan for special events and activities.
• Plan and schedule activities in compliance with budget and grant guidelines.
• Assume responsibility of day to day operations in the absence of the Camp or Site Director or senior full-time staff.
• Perform any other tasks assigned.
** KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES*
* • Must possess good communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to implement curriculums and provide instruction to participants
• Ability to work with participants, including children and/or persons with disabilities, in an active environment.
• Attend required training sessions to implement program components.
** PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
** The following are some of the physical requirements associated with this position. Reasonable accommodation may be made by the City to enable an individual to perform the essential duties/functions of the position.
• Must have ability to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, stand, hear, hands to finger dexterity, handle, feel or operate objects, read and write English.
• Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office equipment; such as but not limited to a personal computer, calculator, copier and fax machines.
• Work is performed indoors within a quiet to moderately noisy environment.
• Must be able to lift, carry and or push articles weighing up to 20 lbs.
** MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE*
* • Must have high school diploma general education degree.
• Previous experience with the city of Hialeah after school program and or summer camp, the special population center, or other ECS division or recreation program preferred.
• Must have completed the 55-hour childcare training courses verified by childcare training transcript.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish is required.
• Attend required training sessions to implement program components.
• Preferred state of Florida Director credential.
• Any combination of education and experience may be considered.
