Position Summary

The Construction Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a Mini Excavator, Skid Steer, and Trencher, with limited operation of a Trackhoe and Dozer as needed. When equipment operation is not required, the employee will assist with general field and construction duties. This position requires regular physical labor and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions on active construction sites.

A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is helpful but is not required for this position.

Responsibilities
  • Safely operate a Mini Excavator, Skid Steer, and Trencher to complete digging, grading, trenching, and material-handling tasks.
  • Operate a Trackhoe and Dozer on a limited basis as directed by the supervisor.
  • Perform daily pre- and post-operation equipment inspections; report mechanical issues, damage, or needed maintenance promptly.
  • Assist with general field and construction duties (e.g., digging, shoveling, raking, hauling materials, site cleanup, and setup/teardown of work areas) when not operating equipment.
  • Read and follow site plans, grade stakes, markings, and instructions from supervisors to complete work accurately.
  • Follow all safety procedures, site-specific safety plans, and OSHA regulations at all times.
  • Assist in locating and avoiding underground utilities in coordination with utility locate services.
  • Maintain a clean and organized job site, including proper storage of tools and equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with crew members, supervisors, and other trades on-site.
  • Perform manual labor tasks as part of the regular workload, including lifting, digging, and material handling.
  • Operate company vehicles to transport equipment, tools, or materials to and from job sites, if licensed and required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequently lift and carry up to 50 lbs; occasionally lift heavier items with assistance.
  • Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind.
  • Work on uneven terrain and in confined or trench spaces as needed.
  • Operate heavy machinery requiring hand-eye coordination and physical dexterity.
  • Perform repetitive manual tasks such as shoveling, digging, and hauling materials for extended periods.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) for the duration of shifts.
Qualifications
  • Prior experience operating a Mini Excavator, Skid Steer, and/or Trencher preferred.
  • Experience operating a Trackhoe and/or Dozer is a plus, but not required.
  • Ability to perform physical labor consistently throughout the workday.
  • Basic understanding of construction site safety practices.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and work well within a crew.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is helpful but not required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Work Environment

Work is performed primarily outdoors on active construction and job sites. The employee will be exposed to varying weather conditions, noise from equipment and machinery, dust, and other typical construction site conditions. Steel-toed boots and other required safety gear must be worn at all times.
