Friends’ Central School is an independent, coeducational Quaker day school founded in 1845 and serving approximately 880 students in Nursery through grade 12. Located in the Philadelphia suburbs, the School has two campuses. The Middle & Upper Schools are located just outside of West Philadelphia in Wynnewood, and the Lower School is on our Old Gulph Road campus in the heart of Wynnewood.

Position

Upper School Spanish Teacher — The Friends’ Central Upper School (grades 9-12) seeks a dedicated, enthusiastic teacher of Spanish for a full-time position beginning on July 1, 2026. Qualified candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in a related field, and interest in working with Upper School students.

Responsibilities
  • Teach four sections of Spanish, typically involving multiple levels.
  • Focus on linguistic proficiency and cultural competency by conducting classes in the target language at least 90% of the time (per ACTFL guidelines).
  • Incorporate diverse opportunities for students to learn about the history, cultures, and contemporary issues of Spanish-speaking communities.
  • Stay current with pedagogical best practices, including the integration of educational technology and differentiated instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Provide timely, actionable feedback to students and maintain up-to-date grading.
  • Collaborate actively with World Language colleagues on departmental initiatives, curricular design, and vertical alignment.
  • Maintain active communication with teachers, advisors, and parents regarding student academic needs and growth.
  • Serve as an advisor to a small group of students, proactively guiding and supporting their academic progress and social-emotional well-being, and serving as the key contact between advisees’ parents and the school.
  • Attend and contribute to faculty, department, and other committee meetings.
  • Contribute to the School in an extra/co-curricular capacity as appropriate (coaching, advising clubs, etc.).
Qualifications
  • Fluency in Spanish
  • Bachelor’s degree in Spanish or related field
  • Ability to teach all Upper School levels of Spanish, from Spanish 1 through Spanish Literature

Physical Demands

Physical demands include dexterity for office machines and supply operation including but not limited to writing, using electronic devices, computer, phone, calculator, copy machine, fax machine, and printers. Stooping, bending, reaching and sitting or standing for extended periods of time are common.
