Assist the Lead Teacher, to provide a warm nurturing, safe and loving environment where self-concepts are enhanced, independence is encouraged and individuality is respected. Under the direct supervision of the Lead Teacher, responsible for the operation of the Head Start classroom.
Responsibilities- Maintain compliance with DHS full day licensing requirements.
- Abide by 45 CFR Chapter XIII, Head Start Program Performance Standards.
- Comply with all applicable federal, state, and tribal regulations, policies and procedures.
- Assist Lead Teacher and promote school readiness.
- Maintain a clean, neat classroom; keep toys and equipment clean and in good condition.
- Supervise outdoor and indoor areas in a way that children’s safety can be easily monitored and ensured.
- Establish and maintain good communications with parents and staff.
- Advocate and act as a liaison for Head Start children and families.
- Submit required reports to designated managers and the Head Start Director when they are due; i.e. Monthly average daily attendance, school readiness checkpoints, health/screening referrals, center inspections.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Associates degree in Early Childhood Education or related field with experience teaching preschool age children preferred.
- CDA with experience working toward an Associate’s Degree.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the Kiowa Tribe’s motor vehicle policy.
- Must submit to and pass a pre-employment background check with fingerprints.
- Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug test with random testing.
- Annual physical exam with TB test.
- Must complete Head Start Orientation (ELCCT, First Aid/CPR certification and Food Handler’s certification).
- Must complete DHS orientation.
- Must be willing to submit to and pass drug testing as required in the Kiowa Tribe Human Resources Policies and Procedures.
- Must be willing to submit to and pass the required background investigation based upon the nature of the position and any other applicable requirements.
- Large motor activities including but not limited to walking, bending, marching, reaching.
- Outdoor playground and field trips duties.
- Lift 50lbs. (Children)
- Riding in school bus with bus monitor duties, including but not limited to assisting children with getting into seat, connecting five-point harness, walking child to safety.
- Sitting for long periods of time while on the computer and in training.
- Cleaning (vacuuming, sweeping, moping, scrubbing)
- Driving Head Start vehicles.
