JOB SUMMARY

Assist Lead Teacher and/or Teacher Aide as needed, including interactive supervision of outdoor and indoor areas in a way that children’s safety can be easily monitored. Provide a warm, nurturing, safe and loving environment where self-concepts are enhanced, independence is encouraged, and individuality is respected. Assist with implementing learning experiences that advance the intellectual and physical development of children. Under the direct supervision of the Lead Teacher, responsible for the operation of the Head Start Classroom.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain compliance with DHS licensing requirements.
  • Abide by 45 CFR Chapter XIII, Head Start Program Performance Standards.
  • Comply with all applicable federal, state and tribal regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Assist Lead Teacher and/or Teacher’s Aide to promote school readiness while adhering to Kiowa Tribe Head Start policies and procedures; follow curriculum, assist with the implementation of weekly lesson plans in accordance with My Teaching Strategies.
  • Maintain a clean, neat classroom; keep toys and equipment clean and in good condition
  • Establish and maintain good communications with parents and staff.
  • Advocate and act as a liaison for Head Start children and families.
  • Act as bus monitor for transportation of children to Head Start events.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED required.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug test with random drug testing.
  • Must complete a physical exam with TB test within first two weeks of hire and annually thereafter.
  • Must complete Head Start Orientation (ELCCT, First Aid/CPR certification within 90 days, and Food Handler’s Certification)
  • Must complete DHS Orientation.
  • Must be willing to submit to and pass drug testing as required in the Kiowa Tribe Human Resources Policies and Procedures.
  • Must be willing to submit to and pass the required background investigation based upon the nature of the position and any other applicable requirements.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Lift 50lbs. (children)
  • Sitting for long periods of time while on the computer and in training.
  • Riding in school bus with bus monitor duties, including but not limited to, assisting children with getting into seat, connecting five-point harness, walking child to safety.
  • Cleaning (vacuuming, sweeping, moping, and scrubbing)
  • Large motor activities including but not limited to walking, bending, marching, reaching.
  • Outdoor playground and field trip duties.
