Graduate Psychology Teaching Assistant – Mental Health Focus
Location: Blackburn
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-time, term-time only
Salary: Competitive (dependent on experience)
We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Psychology Graduate to join our supportive education setting in Blackburn from September. This is an excellent opportunity for graduates looking to gain paid, hands‑on experience in mental health and education before progressing into further study in Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or related fields.
You will work closely with pupils requiring additional emotional, behavioural, and mental health support, playing a key role in helping them engage positively with learning and school life.
Key Responsibilities- Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs
- Support students in developing coping strategies, emotional regulation, and resilience
- Assist in implementing individual support plans and behaviour strategies
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCOs, and external professionals
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to support their wellbeing and progress
- Monitor and record student progress and wellbeing
- Degree in Psychology or a related subject (2:2 or above)
- Genuine interest in mental health, child development, and education
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Resilient, patient, and empathetic approach
- Desire to pursue a career in Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or mental health services
- Previous experience working with children or vulnerable individuals (desirable but not essential)
- Valuable paid experience in a school‑based setting
- Direct exposure to SEMH needs and multidisciplinary support approaches
- Ongoing training and professional development opportunities
