Special Education Teacher
Job Summary:
The Special Education Teacher provides specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities, ensuring their access to a high‑quality education in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The teacher creates a positive and inclusive learning environment that fosters student growth, independence, and success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Instructional Planning and Delivery:
- Develop and implement IEPs that address the unique needs of each student, in collaboration with parents, administrators, and related service providers.
- Provide individualized and small‑group instruction in accordance with IEP goals and objectives.
- Adapt and modify curriculum materials and teaching methods to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Utilize evidence‑based instructional strategies and assistive technology to enhance student learning.
- Monitor student progress and collect data to inform instructional decisions.
- IEP Development and Implementation:
- Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the development of comprehensive and measurable IEP goals.
- Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date IEP documentation.
- Communicate regularly with parents and related service providers regarding student progress and IEP implementation.
- Classroom Management and Behavior Support:
- Create a positive and supportive classroom environment that promotes student engagement and participation.
- Implement behavior management strategies and interventions to address student behavior concerns.
- Collaborate with school counselors and behavior specialists to develop and implement behavior support plans.
- Assessment and Evaluation:
- Administer and interpret a variety of assessments to evaluate student progress and identify areas of need.
- Use assessment data to inform instructional planning and IEP development.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to evaluate student eligibility for special education services.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and parents to ensure seamless integration and support for students with disabilities.
- Communicate effectively with all stakeholders regarding student progress, IEP implementation, and classroom activities.
- Attend and participate in professional development activities and staff meetings.
- Compliance and Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local special education laws and regulations.
- Adhere to district policies and procedures.
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field.
- Valid Oklahoma Special Education Teaching Certification.
- Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Experience developing and implementing IEPs.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
- Commitment to the success of all students with disabilities.
- Ability to perform duties in a classroom setting.
- Ability to lift and carry materials as needed.
- Ability to bend, stoop, and kneel.
- Ability to use technology effectively.
