Summary:
The Public Policy Program at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, is recruiting a pool of qualified individuals for possible part-time adjunct teaching appointments. For the current academic year, the Public Policy Program anticipates instructional needs in Public Policy.
Within the College of Arts & Sciences, adjunct faculty may be responsible for:
- Teaching assigned undergraduate and/or graduate courses depending on unit need
- Preparing syllabi and course materials
- Delivering instruction and assessing student learning
- Holding office hours
- Fulfilling other instructional duties consistent with departmental needs
This pool will remain open to address additional teaching needs that may arise throughout the year. Your application will remain active as long as the pool position is available but no more than one year. After one year, if you are still interested, you must reapply to the most current adjunct advertisement.
Job Description:Required Qualifications:
- A Master’sdegree
**** in Public Policyor a closely related field, or equivalent experience and qualifications.
- A Ph.D. or other appropriate terminal degree, or ABD status, in Public Policyor a related field at the time of appointment (August 10 for fall or January 10 for spring).
- Previous academic teaching experience.
- This position is also not eligible for work visa sponsorship.
- This isapart-time positionrestricted to the termtowhich it is assigned andhired, andis not eligible for benefits.
- The position may requireadditionalhours beyond the typical work week, including occasional evenings, weekends, or overnight work as needed to meet operational requirements.
- As part-time exempt employees, adjuncts are subject to the limitations of the Virginia Manpower Control Program. Total hours worked may not exceed an average of 29 hours per week over a twelve-month period beginning May 1 each year.
- Within Arts & Sciences, adjunct instructional workload limits apply. Total adjunct work hours for part-time employment from May 1 through April 30 may not exceed1,500 hours,generallyequatingto up to 14 credit hours for fall/spring and up to 6 for summer, not to exceed 18 credit hours for the year.
- Adjunctswithinthe College ofArts & Sciences at William & Mary mustmaintainan in-person presence for the duration of their appointment. Remote teaching opportunities are rare and subject to approval.
