LOCATION:Hutcherson Family YMCA
POSITION SUMMARY:Under the direction of the CDC Director, the Lead Teacher is responsible for meeting the developmental needs of children birth through six years of age in a group setting.
Responsibilities include:
planning and implementing developmentally appropriate lesson plans that address the cognitive, emotional, and social needs of each child; providing a safe and secure environment; providing documentation of positive developmental outcomes for students, as well as maintaining positive relations and communications with families, partnership agencies and program staff. Directs classroom teachers, assistant teacher, practicum students, and volunteers to meet program standards as well as Tulsa/County Health Department and the Federal School Lunch licensing regulations.
Childcare has special demands in that we care for children that in many instances cannot care for themselves. It is critical that the Lead Teacher be mentally and physically fit to perform the duties outlined in this job description
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS), preferred emphasis in Early Childhood Education or equivalent;
Associate’s Degree with emphasis on Early Childhood education and working towards Bachelor’s Degree - Must be at least 21 years of age
- Minimum 6 months experience as a lead teach in a preschool, or equivalent
- Excellent spoken and written English to serve as a role model
- Meet DHS & Health Department guidelines for staff
- Knowledgeable in Teaching Strategies GOLD and Early Childhood Guidelines
- Knowledge of budgeting & fiscal management
- Basic understanding of the nature of the YMCA as a membership organization
- Current CPR/AED/First Aid/O2 Certification
- Knowledge of community resources
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assume budgetary responsibility, as assigned.
- Train, supervise, develop, and retain staff.
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lessons and activities;
- Develop a daily schedule that provides a balance of active and quiet activities, individual and group times;
- Monitor children’s developmental progress through observation records, checklists, daily reports and portfolios.
- Maintain positive, open relations with all families;
- Address and greet parents by name upon arrival and departure;
- Reinforce daily to parent and child the successes and positive behaviors exhibited;
- Communicate all concerns and provide written documentation of all concerns to Director;
- Facilitate all classroom activities, participate, model, and observe as necessary.
- Manage all classroom supplies and equipment in a safe and organized manner;
- Maintain the classroom environment to support smooth transitions and independent learning of children;
- Assure maintenance and cleanliness of areas of use & all equipment, follow association policies and guidelines.
- Other duties as assigned
- Work with schools, parents, & community organizations on collaborative programs
- Strong relations with parents, staff, children, & all accrediting agencies – DHS, CAP, NAEYC, ACA, etc.
- Take leadership role at CDC as part of the team
When a teacher does a quality job, the children will feel positive about them and look forward to coming to school. Parents will be pleased with the growth and development of their children, which in turn affects the overall program stability. Helps maintain competitive edge in childcare industry. Ensures positive surveys of classroom & CDC program overall. Recognized in the YMCA service area as an expert in your field.
