Your role at Clorox:

This role operates under the guidance of the Plant HSE Manager and works closely with site leadership to drive sustainable HSE programs. The position reports into site HSE leadership and regularly partners with plant leaders to ensure full compliance with HSE and Fire Protection requirements. Success in this role requires someone who is highly self‑directed, proactive, and able to meet critical deadlines independently.

The HSE Specialist will be responsible for leading site HSE initiatives and ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations. This includes delivering required employee training, which calls for strong communication skills. The role also manages and maintains all plant permits at the federal, state, and local levels, including those issued by city, county, or other municipal authorities.

this role, you will:
Business Processes and

Activities:
  • Create processes to ensure a safe working environment throughout the plant.
  • Develop and execute a safety incident investigation process to drive root cause analysis and action planning to eliminate future risks.
  • Coordinate, implement, and maintain the highest level of compliance with OSHA and Clorox standards.
  • Serve as the point of contact for safety and environmental inspectors, maintaining a professional relationship with them.
  • Complete timely environmental regulatory reporting.
  • Lead HSE education/awareness through training, development, and communication to drive compliance to national, state and local regulatory requirements.
  • Offer recommendations to operations for safe engagement between employees and machines when introducing new equipment, improvements, or technologies.
  • Lead efforts in driving environmental initiatives that support sustainability goals.
  • Support the establishment of metrics to achieve HSE goals.
  • Conduct on‑site HSE assessments and observe plant activities to identify and communicate out‑of‑compliance behaviors or conditions, taking immediate action to ensure compliance.
  • Lead environmental compliance program, including but not limited to: management & renewal of wastewater permits, Tier 2 reporting, SWP3, SPCC, and hazardous waste management.
  • Achieve “World Class” HSE results at the site level, including reducing injuries, notices of violation, spills, and environmental incidents, and implementing effective reporting and risk reduction follow‑up to prevent recurrence.
  • Oversee the conduct of and sign‑off on completion of plant HSE trainings.
Leadership & People Development Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate and manage safety improvements using improvement methodology tools.
  • Train and develop assigned groups or department leads to provide day‑to‑day HSE support with regulatory and technical knowledge.
  • Drive HSE process improvement projects and programs with the goal of building a “Zero Loss” safety culture and reducing at‑risk conditions and behaviors.
  • Champion a culture change by focusing on mindsets, behaviors, and capabilities, raising hazard awareness while lowering risk tolerance across the plant.
  • Support local human resources or other plant functions on worker’s compensation claims management.
Systems and Tools Responsibilities:
  • Manage the HSE Management System and troubleshoot any site issues.
What we look for:
  • 4+ years of proven work experience in a high‑speed manufacturing environment, supporting HSE initiatives.
  • Bachelor's Degree in HSE or related discipline.
  • CSP or ASP certification is highly preferred.
  • In lieu of formal degree, 3+ years' experience leading HSE Programs plus completion of formal HSE continuing education courses will be considered.
  • EHS training program or equivalent such DOT Hazardous Materials, RCRA, etc.
  • Successful completion of OSHA Safety Training Courses such as 501 & 511.
  • Current certification in First Aid/CPR/AED.
