NGEN Mission Critical is a global operation designed to meet the ever-evolving critical power and thermal infrastructure needs of mission critical facilities. Guided by integrity and innovation, our team provides a high-touch, transparent experience from the first quote through to final delivery. From advanced data center campuses and utility-scale power generation to critical grid infrastructure, NGEN delivers solutions built to meet the highest operational standards in today’s most demanding environments.
Our team works hard while maintaining a collaborative, respectful, and supportive culture. We are looking for colleagues with a sense of humor, who consider themselves “builders”, and who are excited to make an impact in a future-focused and fast paced environment.
THE OPPORTUNITY:NGEN Mission Critical is hiring an Electrical Engineer to lead product development and technical ownership for large electrical equipment including power transformers, gas-insulated switch gear (GIS), switchboards/panel boards, and associated balance-of-plant electrical systems, targeted at data center and mission critical customers in the U.S. market.
This is a hands‑on engineering role where you'll be the technical expert driving product definition, design review, and performance requirements for critical power infrastructure. You'll work directly with offshore OEMs to develop products that meet rigorous U.S. standards (NEC, UL, IEEE, ANSI), perform detailed power systems analysis, and ensure our equipment integrates seamlessly with customer transmission and distribution systems.
You’ll partner closely with the Head of Engineering, suppliers, and cross‑functional teams to bring products from concept through certification and into the field. This role requires someone who can think at both the system level (single‑line diagrams, protection coordination, utility interconnection) and the component level (detailed design review, factory testing, certification requirements).
If you're an electrical engineer who thrives on solving complex power systems challenges, enjoys working with global suppliers to develop world‑class products, and wants to make an impact in one of the most exciting sectors in America, this role is for you.
YOUR MISSION:- Lead electrical product definition, detailed design review, and performance requirements for transformers, GIS, UL 891 switchboards, UL 1558 panel boards, and ancillary electrical equipment.
- Create and review single‑line diagrams (SLDs), wiring schematics, interconnection diagrams, and installation/commissioning documents suitable for mission‑critical facilities.
- Define electrical ratings, insulation coordination, dielectric/impulse withstand criteria, thermal ratings, tap‑changer strategies, and specifications for protective devices and controls.
- Perform system studies including short‑circuit, load flow, protective device coordination, arc‑flash, transient stability (as required), and harmonics analysis using ETAP or equivalent tools.
- Specify and validate protection and control schemes (relay selection, settings, CT/PT requirements) and coordination studies for integration with customer T&D systems and onsite generation.
- Interface technical outputs with utility transmission/distribution practices and ensure designs accommodate U.S. T&D requirements and interconnection constraints.
- Own conformity to NEC, UL product standards (UL 891, UL 1558, UL/IEEE transformer standards as applicable), IEEE, and relevant NERC/utility requirements as they apply to product scope.
- Coordinate factory testing, type tests, and witness testing (routine, short‑circuit, temperature‑rise, DGA for transformers, dielectric tests for GIS) with suppliers and third‑party test labs.
- Support certification programs and provide technical packages required by certifiers and U.S. authorities.
- Work closely with Chinese suppliers on design transfer, prototype review, manufacturing process controls, and corrective actions based on FAT outcomes.
- Define FAT/SAT acceptance criteria, BOM control, spare parts…
