Gross Production Business Registration Specialist

Salary: $51,600 per year.

Job Summary

The Specialist supports the Business Tax Services Division by researching, reviewing, registering, and processing gross production registrations, business registrations, and sales tax exemption applications and renewals submitted electronically, by paper, and written requests. The Specialist will be in contact with taxpayers during the registration process.

The Specialist is also involved coordinating with other divisions of the Oklahoma Tax Commission for business compliance, issuance of permits and licenses as well as bonding reviews and requests for information and other business requests and research.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Research, review, register, and process business registration and gross production applications and renewals submitted electronically and through other means.
    • Review for bonding requirements, as well as documentation needed from other state agencies.
  • Prepare business permits, cab cards, and other appropriate taxpayer notifications for business registration submissions
    • For those registered, held, or denied.
  • Prepare sales tax exemption permits and appropriate taxpayer notifications for exemption registration submissions.
  • Prepare memos and taxpayer correspondence in a manner sufficient to convey procedures, laws, and regulations.
  • Assist taxpayers, legal representatives, internal and external personnel in a professional manner by email, telephone, and in person.
  • Complete assigned work items in order to meet section production and accuracy standards.
  • Resolve complex and non‑complex business tax issues
    • Use proper resources to find solutions and respond in a timely manner.
  • Review financial records and other business records; identify deficiencies; provide advice on requirements for compliance with existing laws, policies, and standards.
  • Perform special investigations as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and experience requirements at this level consist of:

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or public administration, or a closely related field.
  • Each year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.
Preferred Qualifications

Preference may be given to candidates who have completed a CPA certification or have a background in business taxes.

Physical Demands

Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time. Exhibit manual dexterity and hand‑eye coordination to operate a computer, keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment. Ability to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids, hear and understand speech at normal levels, communicate clearly, and lift up to 15 pounds. Duties are normally performed in an office environment with a moderate noise level.

Special Requirements

No travel is required.

Oklahoma Tax Commission’s normal work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. This schedule may require minor flexibility based on the needs of the agency.
