Corrections Corporal – Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (Evergreen)

Duties and Responsibilities- Monitor inmates/offenders in a wide variety of situations and activities.
- Enforce facility rules and regulations governing the conduct of inmates/offenders.
- Conduct and evaluate on‑the‑job training for newly assigned Corrections Officers, if applicable.
- Document inmate/offender behavior, status, and movement.
- Search inmates/offenders’ persons, quarters, and work areas for contraband.
- Operate or monitor manual, computerized, or electronically controlled security equipment to maintain controlled movement of inmates/offenders, staff, and the public.
- Assume responsibility for inmate/offender housing areas, including sanitation, meal service, laundry inventory, supplies, and daily control documentation (logs, counts, etc.).
- May be in charge of visiting areas, ensuring compliance with rules and regulations governing those areas.
- Transport or oversee transportation of inmates/offenders who leave the facility on any form of transportation into the community.
- Assist supervisory staff in the operation of maximum security areas, such as segregation units.
- Recommend improvements to security procedures when appropriate.
- Work overtime, voluntary or mandatory, including weekends, holidays, and double shifts.
- Minimum:
At least 18 years of age; high school education or equivalent; valid driver’s license; legally authorized to possess a firearm and ammunition. - Preferred:
Bilingual English/Spanish skills. - Additional:
Successful completion of the examination and screening process; must pass medical exam and drug test; must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.
