All Straight & Narrow Programs (Passaic, Patterson, Secaucus)

Hours:

8:00am-4:00pm, 4:00pm-12:00am, 12:00am-8:00am (flexibility required)

Regular Salary: $16.00–17.00/hour

Job Summary

The Residential Life Associate provides direct supervision and support to clients living in a structured treatment environment as well as a halfway house setting. The role conducts 30‑minute safety and wellness rounds, monitors and documents client behaviors, and supports daily routines aligned with treatment goals. Residential Life staff assist clients through their recovery process by reinforcing coping skills, promoting accountability, and maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment in collaboration with the clinical, medical, and administrative team.

The position is awake and requires leadership in maintaining a safe, disciplined, and caring therapeutic environment.

Client Supervision and Support
  • Provide direct supervision and support to clients at all times.
  • Maintain high visibility in client areas to provide structure and supervision.
  • Assist and supervise clients in maintaining the safety and cleanliness of the facility.
  • Help clients follow the established schedule to attain internal structure.
  • Know all clients on the unit and their room assignments.
  • Introduce yourself to new clients on their first day and explain your role and presence times.
  • Immediately inform the shift supervisor if staffing ratios are not met (one staff per 24 clients during waking hours, one per 30 clients during sleeping hours, and at least two staff at all times).
  • Document client behavior in the Electronic Health Record System (EHR) per funding sources and Medicaid protocols.
  • Do not use personal cell phones while driving, on duty, or responsible for client supervision, except in emergencies and in compliance with policies.
  • Complete client rounds at least every 30 minutes and verify all clients are present on the roster.

Job Duties
  • Know the contents of the Clients’ Handbook.
  • Conduct searches of client person and property per policy and procedure.
  • Follow policy for clients who are discharged, voluntarily leave, or are removed by authorities.
  • Collect and secure belongings of any client who leaves the program.
  • Collect clients’ urine for testing per Policy & Procedure for Urine Screens.
  • Escort, monitor, and transport clients between units and/or facilities as required.
  • Supervise in‑house client visits when assigned.
  • Ensure all documentation is included in the client’s physical chart or EHR.
  • Know all company policies, procedures, guidelines, and daily operations.
  • Keep client and common areas clean and organized at all times.
  • Assist with housekeeping duties when applicable.
  • Provide clients with approved non‑prescription medication in accordance with policy.
Documentation and Communication
  • Document all movements on the Round’s Report.
  • Report significant events or client movements to the on‑site supervisor and Senior Director of Residential Life.
  • Document major incidents on the Shift Report (behavioral outbursts, medical emergencies, urine positives, or other significant changes).
  • Complete Incident Reports for any unusual occurrences and submit to appropriate supervisors.
  • Follow all EHR policies.
  • Ensure dress code compliance.
  • Remain on shift until replacement arrives, and inform supervisor of replacement absences.
  • Propose an alternate staff member to cover duties when unable to report; submit approval to supervisor before leaving the agency.
  • Report to work on holidays that fall on regular scheduled days.
  • Review staff communication logs before each shift.
  • Pass on keys and radios to incoming shift.
  • Provide educational/didactic sessions if assigned.
  • Cross‑train across all Straight & Narrow programs.
  • Facilitate and document psycho educational and health‑in‑action group sessions.
  • Use company vehicles exclusively to transport clients to appointments.
  • Drive company vehicles to different locations for job tasks as assigned.
  • Conduct drug and alcohol testing per policy.
