Job SummaryPerforms venipunctures, arterial punctures, and capillary sampling to obtain blood samples for laboratory testing. Enters orders for testing and accessions specimens in the computer system.
Minimum EducationHigh School Diploma or GED.
Licensure, Registration and/or CertificationNone.
Work Experience0 - 6 month(s) related experience inclusive of on the job or classroom training in phlebotomy.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Basic PC Skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to draw blood specimens.
- Collects patient specimens competently and accurately.
- Supports the general operation of the Laboratory.
- Documents collection and processes specimens efficiently.
- Performs phlebotomy collections in a timely manner.
Independent judgment in making minor decisions where alternatives are limited and standard policies/protocols have been established.
Working Relationships- Works directly with patients and/or customers.
- Works with internal customers via telephone or face to face interaction.
- Works with external customers via telephone or face to face interaction.
- Works with other healthcare professionals and staff.
