Job Description
Looking for a part-time Physician Assistant for a busy, small, private practice. Sleep medicine experience preferred, but not necessary. Must be a team player and self-motivated with a desire to learn. Base salary with opportunity for year end bonus.
1. Patient Evaluation and Diagnosis
- Conduct initial patient assessments:
Review medical history, sleep patterns, and symptoms of sleep disorders. - Perform physical exams:
Assess for signs of conditions like obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), insomnia, restless leg syndrome, narcolepsy, etc. - Diagnose sleep disorders:
Based on evaluations and tests, diagnose various sleep conditions and coexisting conditions like sleep apnea, insomnia, and parasomnias.
2. Treatment and Management
- Develop treatment plans:
Create individualized treatment plans for patients, incorporating both medical and behavioral interventions. - Prescribe medications:
Provide prescriptions for medications like sleep aids, sedatives, or other drugs for sleep disorders as appropriate and within scope. - CPAP/BiPAP management:
Manage continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) or bilevel positive airway pressure (BiPAP) therapy for patients with obstructive sleep apnea. - Patient education:
Educate patients on proper sleep hygiene, lifestyle changes, and therapy adherence (e.g., CPAP mask fitting and use).
3. Sleep Study Management
- Supervise sleep studies:
Oversee the setup of polysomnography in home sleep studies. - Follow-up on sleep study results:
Review results with patients and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
4. Patient Follow-up and Monitoring
- Monitor treatment progress:
Regularly assess the effectiveness of ongoing treatments like CPAP therapy, medications, etc. - Adjust treatment as needed:
Make modifications to treatment plans based on patient feedback, symptoms, and clinical outcomes. - Provide ongoing care:
Ensure continued care for chronic sleep disorders, conducting regular follow-ups to monitor progress and address any side effects or complications.
5. Documentation and Administrative Tasks
- Maintain accurate patient records:
Document patient history, treatment plans, clinical observations, and follow-up care. - Report findings:
Present findings and treatment plans to supervising physicians. - Assist in maintaining our HST and DME business: Set up patients with CPAP/BiPAP, set up home sleep tests and resupply patients with supplies.
6. Education and Research
- Stay current with sleep medicine advancements:
Keep up-to-date with the latest research, treatments, and guidelines in sleep medicine. - Patient education:
Educate patients about the role of sleep in overall health and the importance of adhering to prescribed treatments.
7. Health Promotion and Preventive Care
- Promote sleep health:
Encourage patients to adopt healthier sleep habits and lifestyles, including exercise, stress management, and diet modifications. - Preventive screening:
Screen at-risk patients for sleep disorders, particularly those with conditions like obesity, diabetes, or cardiovascular disease.
