Police Officer

This is a non-exempt, entry level position which requires completion of the Field Training Program as the initial assignment. General job functions consist of both routine and complex law enforcement responsibilities which include: reporting and documentation, enforcement, preliminary investigation, preservation of safety, peace and security, and other tasks as assigned. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a training officer.

The recruit has few independent decision-making responsibilities.

$54,176.64 (Recruit, entry level, no experience) - $63,384.00 (Officer, Step
5). Lateral based pay is offered on a point rating scale for the following:
Education from 30 hours of college up to a Master’s Degree;
Year for year experience up to 5 years at an agency serving at least 10,000 in population including UCO, OU and OSU campuses; and various Law Enforcement Certifications to include SFST, BID, FTO, CIT, ARIDE, LEDT Instructor, DT Instructor, Firearms Instructor, DRE, Accident Reconstructionist, Intoxilyzer and OBNDD Narcotics School. Point Rating Scale for Lateral based pay: 0-1 pts – Step 1;

2-3 pts – Step 2; 4-5 pts – Step 3; 6-8 pts – Step 4; 9+ pts – Step 5.

Work is performed under the direct supervision of a training officer. The recruit has few independent decision-making responsibilities, but general job functions may consist of both routine and complex responsibilities such as enforcement of the law, reporting and documentation, preliminary investigation, preservation of safety, peace and security, and other tasks as assigned.

This classification is a “safety-sensitive” position as defined by the Oklahoma Standards for Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing Act and/or the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana laws. As a “safety-sensitive” classification, you will be subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing. Marijuana is one of the substances included in the drug panel screening. Possession of a medical marijuana license will not excuse you from the testing process, or the consequences of testing positive for marijuana.

Reports to Police Lieutenant if placed on shift schedule

• Upholds the values of the City and the Department and have a strong dedication to public service.
• Performs enforcement of local, state and federal law, including local ordinance and departmental policy/procedure, within recognized methods and techniques of law enforcement. Requires issuing written citations, arresting violators of local and state laws, and performing crime deterrence by regular City patrol.
• Performs reporting and documentation in both a verbal and written narrative format for the purpose of documenting information, evidence and events. Requires production of written and computer-generated complaints to legally charge offenders in a court of competent jurisdiction, written documentation of tasks performed on duty, and verbal testimony in court.
• Performs preliminary investigation in the form of interviews of witnesses and victims and interrogations of suspects, and inspection of premises to locate criminal, unusual or suspicious activity. Requires diverse tasks which involve recognition, collection and analysis of evidence and information.
• Preserves the safety, peace and security of the community by assisting stranded motorists to assist with traffic flow, providing information to assist in problem solving, or administering first aid to prevent further injury or death.
