Position Overview Under general direction of the Chief of Police/Assistant Chief of Police, accomplishes the Division of Public Safety’s objectives by management of planning, organizing and directing all functions required to effectively analyze the Pawnee Nation’s safety and security departments. Ensures the Division operates in accordance with contractual requirements and applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Essential Functions Respond and patrol land within jurisdictional boundaries.

Assist other local state and tribal law enforcement agencies when the need arises.

Responsible for filling out daily reports.

Work with other law enforcement agencies.

Detain person(s) committing an offense that falls within the jurisdiction of the Pawnee Nation and transfer to proper authority following proper police procedure.

Investigate any incident or occurrence within the jurisdiction of the Pawnee Nation or Indian lands.

Assist other law enforcement agencies with any investigative reports or information when needed.

Deliver emergency messages to tribal officials or Pawnee tribal members when necessary.

Operate and maintain police unit/vehicle or equipment issued to the officer in a safe and professional manner.

Serve warrants and court orders as directed by the Chief of Police.

Carry a firearm in the line of duty after receiving and successfully completing certified firearms training.

Assist in the investigation or removal of children from homes when required by the Indian Child Welfare Department or serve as witness on home visits.

Attend meetings and complete training or workshops which enhance job development.

Must pass annual physical evaluations in order to certify fit for duty.

Must pass bi-annual weapons certification.

Ensures confidentiality in all issues.

Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police/Assistant Chief of Police and within the scope of the position.

Qualifications Educational Requirements Minimum :
High School diploma or GED.Preferred:
Two (2) years of college courses with some courses in Criminal Justice.

Experience Requirements Minimum:
Must be 21 years old;
Must be physically fit and able to attend and complete the Indian Police Academy or other police training courses as soon as possible if no prior law enforcement experience.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Computer:

Proficiency in Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Internet Explorer, etc.

Communication:

Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with co-workers and outside agencies at all levels.

Ability to effectively communicate and interact with the public and law enforcement agencies in a professional manner.

Miscellaneous:

Must be at least 21 years old.

Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable with the Nation’s insurance carrier.

Must have clean police and driving record and must pass a complete thorough background process administered by the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

Must establish residence within the jurisdictional boundaries of the Pawnee Nation.

Ability to obtain knowledge of the principles and practices of Law Enforcement.

Must demonstrate strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize.

Ability to obtain knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations and requirements.
