About the Opportunity
We are looking for a Superintendent, Safety to join our Thompson Creek team. Reporting to the Manager, Safety and Security, the Superintendent, Safety will lead continuous improvement of safety and health at the Thompson Creek Mine, developing and administering safety and health management systems across the site and ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities- Supervise safety advisors, technicians, and security personnel.
- Plan and administer safety, health, and security training programs.
- Serve as a key safety and health resource for mine site management.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of safety plans, programs, and work activities to identify improvement opportunities, including risk assessments and inputs into the site risk register.
- Support investigation of injuries and incidents, providing training on analytical techniques to find root causes and recommend corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
- Monitor and report on completion of corrective actions from investigations, inspections, risk analyses, audits, etc.
- Lead health and safety initiatives for all employees in accordance with regulatory agencies and company policies, procedures, and goals.
- Act as a proactive role model for personal compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Create and implement procedures and policies related to safety and health.
- Prepare technical reports, maintain safety documentation, and analyze incident data for trends, recommending corrective action.
- Help develop the departmental safety budget.
- Maintain records and reporting related to safety, health, and security.
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety or a related field preferred.
- Three to five years of safety and health experience in a supervisory role.
- Demonstrated increasing levels of responsibility and accountability through education, training, knowledge, skill development, and a desire to advance within the organization.
- Certified MSHA instructor.
- Ability to obtain certification as a Radiation Safety Officer.
- Familiarity with behavioral‑based safety programs and risk analysis desirable.
- Strong leadership and team‑motivation skills.
- In‑depth experience with MSHA regulatory requirements.
- Professional mine safety/health certification preferred (CMSP/CSP).
- Team oriented with a proven record of fostering departmental and interdepartmental support, cooperation, and team building.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, strong understanding of mill production, maintenance, and engineering systems, and proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and related software.
- Ability to develop and write Standard Operating Procedures from OEM manuals or field instructions/training.
