Essential Functions

This position reports to the Manufacturing Manager and is responsible for managing the CNC operator along with overall safety, quality, production, and continuous improvement within the machining areas. A major area of focus will be the implementation of Lean tools to drive improvements in manufacturing operations.

Qualifications Operational Responsibility
  • Utilize machining background to make decisions on scheduling work and manpower on machines, as well as continuous improvements.
  • Work with the machine shop team to drive continuous improvement through measures, open team dialogue, and a bias for action.
  • Assign jobs according to priorities to maintain scheduled completion dates, using the most appropriate machines and employees for efficient production.
  • Supervise and provide leadership to all employees involved in machining to effectively meet company goals.
  • Manage resources to ensure staffing and equipment levels match business activity.
  • Coach and motivate employees, seeking new ways to continually improve operations.
  • Supervise employees by checking product throughout production to maintain high quality in accordance with AS9100 and company requirements.
  • Orient, train, and instruct all employees in safe and efficient performance of duties.
  • Promote, maintain, and enforce safe and healthy working conditions in accordance with legislative requirements and company standards.
  • Ensure equipment safety to produce expected quality and quantity.
  • Maintain good working relationships with supervisors, quality control, and others to ensure continuous productivity.
  • Implement training programs to expand employee knowledge and ensure compliance with company rules and guidelines.
  • Manage and provide guidance to direct reports on hourly personnel relations, including hiring, discipline, rewards, and recognition.
  • Support all company objectives and goals.
  • Prevent and manage injuries.
  • Develop and sustain cross‑departmental relationships through direct interaction, responsiveness, and accountability.
Education or Equivalent
  • 5 years machine shop experience on CNC mills, including set‑ups and programming
  • 3 to 5 years supervisory experience in manufacturing
  • Knowledge of quality standards, including AS9001
  • High‑school diploma
Knowledge/Skills Requirements
  • Strong knowledge of machines and machining practices.
  • Ability to develop outstanding talent and build a cohesive, highly motivated team.
  • Established record of success supervising a job shop and/or continuous production in a multiple customer environment.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Comfortable at both management and shop floor levels.
  • Ability to bridge relationships across various departments and levels of the organization.
  • Knowledge of industry regulations and relevant safety and OSHA regulations.
  • Computer skills, including MS Office, spreadsheets, and Visual systems.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Regularly stand and walk throughout the facility, and stand for long periods.
  • Lift, carry (short distances), and push/pull up to 100 pounds using peer assistance or equipment.
  • Occasionally reach overhead or to the sides or down.
  • Frequently climb steps, stairs, or ladders.
  • Occasionally bend, crawl, stoop, squat, or kneel.
  • Frequently use hand or fingers to manually inspect parts, tighten hardware & fixtures, and operate tools.
  • Visual acuity to interpret readings on gauges and measuring devices.

Work is performed in a manufacturing shop environment where conditions may vary; the employee may be exposed to:

  • Dust, smoke, mist, fumes, vapor (occasionally)
  • Extreme temperatures (occasionally)
  • Hazardous equipment including forklifts, hand tools, cranes, or other lifting devices continuously.

PPE, including hearing protection, eye and hand protection, and safety footwear is required.
