The Plant Manager is responsible for overall plant operations, including production, material management (receiving, shipping, warehouse), and leading the team to meet or exceed safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance measures.
Responsibilities- Direct all plant manufacturing and material management processes while maintaining a safe work environment
- Work collaboratively with Quality, Design, Engineering, Purchasing and other areas outside of plant operations
- Plan and direct layout of equipment, workflow and workforce utilization in production and warehouse activities
- Plan, forecast and execute work schedules and production plans that achieve annual operating plan and budget; promptly address issues to achieve KPIs (safety, quality, delivery, cost)
- Develop and execute strategies to achieve company goals related to growth, profit improvement, customer satisfaction, employee relations and efficiency improvement, including launch of new products and lines
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, OSHA and company policies
- Manage budget, control costs and execute waste reduction efforts to achieve cost-effective goals
- Identify better processes and facilitate product time studies with manufacturing
- Identify, justify and implement capital investments and improvement projects
- Develop and maintain a positive team-based performance culture that cultivates trust, respect and embraces continuous improvement
- Maintain a secure facility to minimize risk and ensure safety of employees and assets
- Engage with production scheduling and execute subsequent production schedules to maintain on-time delivery and best-in-class lead times
- Work with Human Resources to follow guidance on employee laws, evaluations, progressions, work comp, and disciplinary actions
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed on a temporary or permanent basis
- All personnel are responsible for quality and safety; each employee has the authority and responsibility to stop production as necessary to correct safety or quality issues
- Bachelor's degree and five or more years as a plant manager or equivalent in education, training, and experience
- Strong analytical and logistical planning skills
- Excellent verbal and written interpersonal and communication skills
- Excellent organizational and time‑management skills
- In-depth knowledge of business and management principles (budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation, and human resources)
- Experience with continuous improvement, Lean Six Sigma &/or Toyota Production System, or similar methods that led to measurable improvement
- Prior successful experience managing warehouse operations
- Ability to review and discuss production reports, budgets and financial statements
- Strong working knowledge of safety procedures and OSHA requirements
- Ability to coach, train and instruct employees
- Computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and ability to learn company systems
- Experience with enterprise resource planning systems; SAP knowledge is a plus
- Pre‑employment drug screening test required
