Job Description

The Class A Fitter/Welder sets up, operates, and maintains welding equipment to produce high-quality structural welds in a manufacturing environment. This role interprets blueprints and technical drawings, selects appropriate welding techniques and positions, and ensures all welded components meet established quality and safety standards.

• Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to identify specific welding requirements and ensure proper execution.
• Set up and operate welding machines, adjusting amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse settings according to job specifications.
• Inspect welding machines, cables, and all associated equipment to verify proper functionality and safe operation.
• Determine the appropriate welding technique, position, and jig based on weld specifications and material thickness.
• Guide the electrode or welding gun along the designated weld line, maintaining correct arc length and travel speed to achieve proper depth of fusion and bead quality.
• Monitor metal color, sound, and puddle size during welding to assess weld quality and make necessary adjustments.
• Select and implement the most efficient welding process for moving and joining raw materials or finished products in various production situations.
• Examine completed welds for bead size, cracks, or other defects and recommend or perform necessary repairs.
• Clean and grind excess weld, slag, and spatter to ensure smooth finishes and meet quality standards.
• Grind or degrease parts as needed to prepare materials and ensure they meet required specifications.
• Safely operate manlifts and cranes to assist with material handling, positioning, and assembly work.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the team, meet production goals, and maintain a safe and efficient work area.

• Proficiency in MIG welding and flux core welding.
• Strong fitting skills for structural fabrication and assembly.
• Ability to perform MIG welding on structural components and assemblies.
• Competence in blueprint reading to accurately interpret weld symbols, dimensions, and fabrication requirements.
• Capability to pass a 3G Plate Groove Weld Test (Vertical-Up) on carbon steel plate.
• Capability to pass a 4G Plate Fillet Weld Test on carbon steel plate.
• Experience in fabrication work, including preparing, aligning, and securing parts prior to welding.
• Skill in cleaning, grinding, and finishing welds to meet quality and appearance standards.
• Ability to safely operate manlifts and cranes for material handling.
• Understanding of manufacturing safety practices and safe operation of welding equipment.
• Availability to work 1st shift, Monday through Friday, from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

• Experience working in a manufacturing facility or structural fabrication environment.
• Attention to detail when inspecting welds and finished parts for defects and quality issues.
• Ability to follow detailed work instructions and adapt to changing production priorities.
• Strong problem-solving skills to identify welding issues and implement corrective actions.
• Capacity to work both independently and as part of a team to meet production targets.
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift materials, and work in positions required for welding and fitting tasks.
