QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
- Certificate in Public Relations, Strategic Communication, or Corporate Communication as an asset.
- 3-5 years of progressive experience in public relations, media communication, or corporate communications
- Minimum 2 years’ experience at a senior Public Relations/Communications level.
- Previous communications experience in a Statutory Body with stakeholder engagement is highly desirable.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the Authority and media outlets by coordinating interviews, issuing press releases, responding to media inquiries, and ensuring timely dissemination of approved public information in alignment with organizational objectives.
- Develop and refine a variety of communication materials using digital tools, including press releases, speeches, newsletters, social media posts, and website updates, ensuring accuracy, consistency in tone, and alignment with the BVI Ports Authority’s brand and communication standards.
- Develop and produce digital and visual content using graphic design and content-creation tools to support the Authority’s public communication efforts across multiple platforms, including social media, digital publications, presentations, and web-based channels, ensuring full alignment with approved brand standards and messaging objectives.
- Collaborate with the Marketing Manager in planning and implementing integrated communication strategies that support the Authority’s goals, including modernization initiatives, infrastructure development, and public service improvements.
- Organize and support public outreach events, town hall meetings, and stakeholder briefings to strengthen relationships with community members, business partners, and government entities, ensuring timely follow-up and feedback reporting.
- Track and report on public perception, media coverage, and emerging communication risks, providing regular updates to leadership and recommending proactive communication responses as needed.
- Draft speeches, talking points, briefing notes, and presentation materials for the Managing Manager and senior executives, ensuring that public appearances and media engagements reinforce the Authority’s messaging and reputation.
- Assist in the development and implementation of crisis communication protocols by coordinating messaging during emergencies, operational disruptions, or public concern events, and ensuring timely internal and external updates.
- Maintain organized records of all public communications, media engagements, and event materials, ensuring documentation is accessible and compliant with internal policies and public information standards.
- Media Relations – Manages press interactions and fosters positive media coverage.
- Content Development – Writes and edits accurate, engaging public content.
- Communication Planning – Supports execution of communication strategies.
- Digital Communication – Uses design tools, social media and online tools effectively.
- Event Coordination – Organizes public outreach and stakeholder events.
- Communication – Conveys information clearly and professionally.
- Adaptability – Responds effectively to fast-changing communication needs.
- Attention to Detail – Ensures accuracy in all public-facing materials.
- Team Collaboration – Works well with internal teams and executives.
