Position Summary The Pre/Post-Operative Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive, patient-centered nursing care to individuals undergoing surgical procedures, ensuring safe preparation prior to surgery and effective recovery following anesthesia. This role is responsible for assessing, monitoring, and educating patients while collaborating with the surgical and interdisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality care. The RN plays a critical role in promoting patient safety, comfort, and positive outcomes throughout the perioperative experience.

This position supports efficient surgical operations while maintaining compliance with regulatory and hospital standards.

Qualifications

Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Oklahoma Previous experience in a critical access hospital or rural healthcare setting preferred

Previous perioperative, surgical, or acute care nursing experience preferred

Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) (Must obtain within 90 days of hire)

Key Responsibilities Perform pre-operative assessments, verifying patient identity, procedure, consents, and readiness for surgery

Prepare patients for procedures by initiating IV access, administering medications, and providing education and emotional support

Monitor and assess patients in the post-anesthesia phase, including airway, vital signs, pain, and neurological status

Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition or post-op complications

Provide clear discharge instructions and education to patients and families

Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation of patient care, medications, and clinical observations

Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area compliant with infection control standards

Ensure compliance with hospital accreditation standards, including utilization of SQSS (Strategic Quality Support System) for compliance tracking.

Adhere to all hospital policy and procedure, follow HIPAA guidelines, available for duty in the event of a disaster, completes all required educational training and performs other job duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements Frequent standing and walking throughout clinical areas for extended periods.

Ability to assist with lifting, repositioning, transferring, or supporting patients.

Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds occasionally and 25 pounds frequently.

Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and kneeling while performing clinical tasks.

Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to operate medical equipment, and document care.

Ability to communicate clearly with patients, families, and healthcare team members.

Ability to visually read medical charts and operate clinical technology.

Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations.

Potential Hazards Exposure to hospital-related hazards including blood-borne pathogens, bodily fluids, infectious diseases, x-ray/electromagnetic energy, electric shock, and chemicals.
