Summary
Directs nursing care for the patients, and supervises the day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants. Such supervision should be in accordance with current federal, state, and local and regulations governing our nursing center, and as may be directed by the Administrator, the Medical Director, and/or the Director of Nursing Services to provide the appropriate care for our patients.

Responsibilities
  • Direct and supervise nursing care and nursing assistants in accordance with applicable regulations and directives from the Administrator, Medical Director, and Director of Nursing Services.
  • Operate and implement essential clinical procedures and equipment as listed in the Essential Skill/Knowledge Functions, including oxygen equipment, suction machines, manual respirators, emergency equipment, glucose monitoring devices, insulin administration, narcotics handling, sterile dressings, and pressure reduction surfaces.
  • Delivery of medications, ordering and use of stock drugs, documentation and billing of supplies, and coordination of care planning/MDs process and committee meetings as necessary.
  • Admit, discharge, and transfer patients as requested; coordinate care with attending physicians and follow up on consultant recommendations (pharmacy, dietary, etc.).
  • Assist the Director of Nursing Services with planning, organizing, and directing the day-to-day functions of nursing assistants; maintain compliance with budgets and departmental policies.
  • Maintain effective inter-departmental communication and participate in inspections and reporting as required (Licensure/JCAHO).
  • Provide education and demonstrations for nursing assistants; ensure completion of documentation procedures and Medicare-related forms.
  • Participate in performance improvement/quality assurance activities and mandatory in-services; uphold patient rights and privacy standards; comply with Corporate Compliance Program.
Qualifications
  • Education
    :
    Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university or graduate of an approved LPN program (required, with verification).
  • Licensure
    :
    Current LPN License in the State of Georgia.
  • American Heart Association BLS CPR required.
  • Experience
    :
    Preferred experience in nursing administration.
Essential Skill/Knowledge and Functions
  • Clinical procedures and equipment operation (oxygen, suction, respirator, whirlpool, scales, glucose monitoring, thermometers).
  • Medication management, administration, documentation, narcotics handling, and IV administration.
  • Wound care, sterile dressings, enemas, catheter insertion and care, tube feedings, and isolation procedures.
  • Lab specimen collection and interpretation; adherence to directives for Advance Directive status; blood draws and lab specimen submission.
  • Patient admissions, discharges, transfers; communication with physicians; scheduling transportation; family communications.
  • Compliance with safety, infection control, PPE use, and privacy/security programs.
Managerial and Administrative Functions
  • Take and record vital signs; chart patient progress and medications; administer medications as directed.
