Job Summary
The RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team who ensures that patients, families and significant others receive individualized, high‑quality, safe patient care. The role is performed in a clinical environment administered by Nurse Managers and other leaders, and is supported through Wellstar’s Shared Governance Model.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions- Exemplary Practice and Outcomes
- Performs the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, execution, evaluation) using evidence‑based practice and critical thinking to individualize care.
- Provides relationship‑based, patient‑centered care sensitive to population characteristics such as age, gender and disease.
- Partners with patients and their significant others through appropriate methods (bedside shift report, interdisciplinary rounds, planned teaching) to keep patient goals central.
- Practices in accordance with current clinical practice standards.
- Teamwork and Collaboration
- Coordinates delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care, promoting respectful and inclusive communication.
- Demonstrates fiscal responsibility and fosters recruitment and retention of the healthcare team.
- Participates in performance improvement and research utilization, supporting shared governance at all levels.
- Professional Development and Initiative
- Completes initial and ongoing competency assessments, mandatory education and population‑specific education.
- Serves as a preceptor or mentor for nurses and other disciplines, modeling professional practice and fostering a healthy work environment.
- Evidence‑Based Practice and Research
- Promotes evidence‑based practice, nursing research and performance improvement, including participation in value analysis.
- Upholds system policies, procedures and regulatory requirements, such as TJC Patient Safety Goals.
- Collects data, poses clinical questions, and consults with experts to address practice issues.
- Resources and Support
- Plans patient care across the continuum and supports efficient use of human and material resources.
- Participates in protocol development and other initiatives to reduce re‑admissions, avoidable days and adverse events.
- Performs other duties as assigned and complies with all Wellstar policies and standards of conduct.
Minimum Education
- Associate’s degree in Nursing or Diploma (RN) (Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing)
- Registered Nurse (RN) – Single State or RN‑Compact (Multi‑state Compact)
- BLS or equivalent (BLS, ARC‑BLS, BLS‑I)
- Minimum 2 years of direct patient care nursing experience.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
- Familiarity with technology to support clinical care and basic computer skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, collaborative and customer service skills.
- Ability to function in a fast‑paced environment, respond to emergencies calmly, and manage time effectively.
- Analytical thinking and critical reasoning for evidence‑based nursing practice.
