Live Swine Technician Level 1 - OK Pork Plant
Pay: $18.50/HR
The Technician is responsible for the daily care and handling of live swine in a biosecure production environment. This role includes animal care duties, facility sanitation, loading and transporting animals, and maintaining compliance with company biosecurity, animal welfare, and safety standards. Candidates must be comfortable performing physically demanding work in varying environmental conditions, including exposure to heat, cold, humidity, dust, and repetitive tasks.
Successful employees must complete required training programs and demonstrate the ability to work safely, follow protocols, and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide daily care for live swine, including vaccination, blood collection, animal movement, sorting, and facility cleanout activities. (35%)
- Load animals for transport to designated farms, company complexes, and/or processing facilities. (35%)
- Clean and disinfect barns, vehicles, equipment, and surrounding grounds in accordance with company biosecurity standards. (20%)
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment and assist with operational flow changes as needed. Perform other related duties as assigned, with or without notice. (10%)
- Successfully complete Pork Avenue Training Phase 2 for the assigned facility, including required computer-based training modules and in-barn verification assessments conducted by management.
Biosecurity/Animal Welfare Requirements/Safety:
- This position works within a biosecure environment. Employees are required to shower and change clothing and footwear before entering designated facilities. Company-provided clothing and footwear must be worn while on site.
- Jewelry is prohibited on the jobsite, with the exception of medical identification jewelry. Body piercings must be covered in accordance with company safety and biosecurity standards.
- Employees must be willing to comply with company biosecurity protocols, including restrictions related to contact with porcine species outside the workplace.
- Employees must adhere to all Company Biosecurity and Animal Welfare Guidelines.

- Wet or slippery concrete floors
- Exposure to hot and cold temperatures

- Exposure to feed dust and animal-related dust
- Repetitive physical tasks and motions
Physical Requirements:
The successful candidate(s) must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.
- Must be able and willing to safely lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly with intermittent breaks
- Must be able and willing to push or pull animal carts weighing approximately 350–650 pounds with assistance
- Must be able and willing to push or pull feed carts weighing up to 400 pounds
- Must be able and willing to climb over 3- to 4-foot panels and climb feed bin ladders
- Must be able and willing to frequently bend, stoop, stand, and walk for extended periods on concrete surfaces
- Must be able and willing to use high-pressure cleaning equipment
- Must be able and willing to move animals using approved handling equipment
- Must be able and willing to lift animals weighing approximately 35–50 pounds over 3- to 4-foot barriers repeatedly with intermittent breaks
