Job Title
Lieutenant – Agency 131, Department of Corrections (Allen Gamble Correctional Center)
Responsibilities- Coordinate, supervise, and direct correctional security functions and activities at an adult correctional facility.
- Serve as shift supervisor or chief of security, responsible for all assigned units and functions in a large facility or smaller facility.
- Act as commander of a correctional emergency response team, scheduling training exercises and coordinating activities.
- Conduct special investigations concerning incidents that occur during assigned shifts.
- Coordinate and supervise security, riot, and escape procedures, including inmate counts and searches for escape materials and contraband.
- Prepare daily work schedules for security personnel and maintain appropriate records concerning employees and residents.
- Inspect assigned staff at shift start to ensure proper attire and fitness for duty; perform periodic post inspections to ensure proper maintenance; prepare administrative reports on shift operations.
- Serve as liaison to local law‑enforcement agencies, provide information and file changes, and arrange court appearances.
- Participate as a member of the administrative institutional staff in the formulation of institutional policies, rules, and regulations.
- Education and Experience: Minimum of three years in correctional or security work for a government or private corrections agency; age 20+; either 30 semester hours from an accredited college or high school diploma/GED with completion of an approved training course.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Supervisory methods and techniques; staffing patterns and scheduling; discipline for inmates under restraint; inmate psychology; firearms use and care; restraint methods; fundamentals of English, basic math, and report writing; ability to establish effective working relationships; follow oral and written instructions; gather and organize facts; create clear, concise reports; quickly evaluate situations; exercise alertness and act quickly in emergencies;
maintain firearms proficiency; assess and manage conflict resolution. - Special Requirements: Good moral character; completion of required training program; satisfactory physical fitness; valid driver’s license; drug testing; willingness to work any assigned shift; possible peace‑officer duties; background check compliance; no convictions requiring registration as a sex offender; no unpardoned moral‑turpitude crimes, nonviolent felonies, violent felonies, or domestic‑violence convictions; no dishonorable discharge from the armed services.
