The Oklahoma Department of Corrections is recruiting Correctional Officers and Corporal positions across the State of Oklahoma. Applicants must attend an 8‑week live‑in academy in Oklahoma City, beginning October
12,2026, with lodging and meals provided. Facility assignments are based on preferences stated in the initial application.

Correctional Officers maintain the security, control, and custody of inmates in state adult correctional facilities. They provide security and supervision to inmates in a variety of settings, supervise inmate work crews, patrol assigned areas, enforce institutional rules, conduct inmate counts and searches, and produce written documentation on inmate behavior. Corporals carry out the same duties at a full performance level and may hold additional supervisory responsibilities.

• Provide security and supervision to inmates in a variety of situations and activities.
• Maintain security of an assigned area or post.
• Supervise inmate work crews and escort inmates to work sites.
• Inventory and control all equipment, weapons, tools, and keys.
• Patrol yards, grounds, cell houses, corridors, dormitories, and work areas on an assigned shift.
• Observe activities and movements of inmates, manage inmate conduct, work, and discipline.
• Maintain order and discipline during programs, meals, and recreation periods.
• Inspect living areas, facilities, and work locations for unauthorized objects or materials and report incidents.
• Operate manually or electronically controlled security equipment.
• Conduct inmate counts, searches of inmates and living quarters, and enforce institutional rules and regulations.
• Participate on escape and apprehension teams; respond to riots and fires.

• Minimum age of 20 years.
• Either 30 semester hours of college coursework, or a high‑school diploma/GED followed by completion of a department‑approved training course.
• For Corporals: one year of experience as a Correctional Officer or in a similar security position and possession of a valid driver’s license.
• Knowledge of basic English usage, math, and reporting writing.
• Training and proficiency in firearm use, proper restraint methods, and self‑defense.
• Ability to evaluate situations, act quickly in emergencies, follow instructions, organize facts, communicate effectively, and build working relationships.

• Pass minimum testing or professional evaluation through Human Capital Management.
• Pass pre‑employment and annual physical examinations.
• Undergo drug testing.
• Be willing and able to work any assigned shift or day of the week, with additional shifts as required.
• Possess a valid driver’s license at the time of appointment.
• MUST fulfill all requirements for designation as a peace officer, including psychological and physical testing, and may be required to train in basic police skills.
• Not eligible if convicted of a sex offender‑registration offense, moral turpitude crime without pardon, non‑violent felony without pardon, felony offense, or misdemeanor domestic violence with a relevant court order.
