Position Summary
The Maintenance Instrumentation Journeyman is responsible for maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of existing instrument and automation systems as well as installation, testing and commissioning of new installations and associated equipment. The Maintenance Journeyman may supervise and train other craftsmen and work on various jobs without direct supervision. They embrace positive change and are committed to advancing their understanding of the Wynnewood refinery systems through a strong work ethic, self‑motivation, and training.

The Maintenance Journeyman promotes safety and quality and supports efforts to increase the reliability of this facility.

Education Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate of Applied Science degree in Instrumentation or related field preferred
  • Oklahoma State Journeyman Electrical License preferred
  • Journeyman Instrument Technician or an official apprenticeship qualification/certification from a nationally recognized apprenticeship training program preferred
  • NCCER Instrumentation Certification preferred
Experience Requirements
  • 3+ years’ industrial instrument experience required
  • 5+ years’ experience in a refinery environment preferred
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word preferred
  • Working knowledge of electrical one‑lines, electrical three‑lines, electrical schematics, and electrical prints preferred
  • Experience safely working with hazards and using the associated proper PPE on voltages up to 600 volts preferred
  • Demonstrated basic understanding of electrical and electronic instrumentation operating principles required
  • Experience with pressure, level, flow, temperature sensing instruments and final element equipment such as control valves, actuators, and positioners required
  • Experience with digital, analog, and pneumatic controls and calibration techniques required
  • Working knowledge of P&’s, loop drawings, and cascade loops required
  • Direct experience with SCADA/PLC/Pneumatic controlled loops with the ability to troubleshoot problems is preferred
  • Working knowledge of Analyzers:
    Gas Chromatographs, Combustion Analyzers, Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS), and Opacity preferred
  • Familiarity with Distributed Control Systems:
    Honeywell preferred
  • Familiarity with Equipment Monitoring:
    Vibration monitors, Anti‑surge controls preferred
  • Familiarity with Allen Bradley Programmable Logic Controllers / HMI’s, Redlion HMI’s, SCADA systems preferred
  • Familiarity with Ethernet IP, Mod Bus, RS‑485 communication protocols preferred
  • Must be able to provide and receive directions from others
  • Ability to use a computer for data entry, work order processing and other minor tasks preferred
  • Fluent in English, oral and written required
  • Ability to adjust schedule to meet business needs
Major Accountabilities
  • Perform all duties in compliance with Safety, Health, and Environmental regulations and industry best practices
  • Work with multiple projects and/or issues from a variety of sources
  • Provide electrical and instrumentation support to maintain equipment and facilities safely, efficiently, and environmentally sound
  • Participate in project planning, including drawing updates, P&t, and Cause & Effect development
  • Install, troubleshoot, and maintain electrical, pneumatic, process controls and new equipment per project requirements
  • Use hand and power tools to complete assigned work tasks
  • Set up, prepare, and inspect the worksite at the start of a project and clean up at the end
  • Study blueprints or manufacturer’s manuals to determine correct installation or operation of equipment
  • Communicate regularly with management regarding work progress, concerns, and questions
  • Participate in the PM program on all equipment for continuous improvement
  • Keep detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation
  • Record repairs and maintenance performed
  • Work near potentially volatile and combustible materials and chemicals
