The Thompson Creek Mine is a primary, surface molybdenum mine and mill located approximately 48 kilometers southwest of the town of Challis in Idaho's Custer County. In operations since 1983, the mine uses conventional open‑pit mining methods with large electric‑powered shovels that can each move up to 100,000 tons of waste rock and ore per day. Thompson Creek Mine promotes a drug and alcohol‑free workplace and has adopted a zero‑tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.
AboutThe Opportunity
We are looking for an Operator, Special Projects to join our Thompson Creek team. The Special Projects Operator will be responsible for supporting environmental compliance projects in a safe and responsible manner. The operator must also clean, maintain and secure all equipment as directed by policies and procedures.
Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Maintain and repair environmental protection equipment and systems as requested by Supervisor.
- Projects may include the following:
Snow removal;
Pipeline install and maintenance assistance;
Haul and access road grading and maintenance;
Operation and maintenance of pumping systems;
Surveying;
Inspection of structures and site locations;
Operation of various heavy equipment to support mine and mill efforts;
Installation and maintenance of stormwater protection systems. - General knowledge of the Small Rock Crusher.
- Basic knowledge of HDPE pipe fusion.
- Water system overview.
- Follow established traffic patterns avoiding road hazards and other hazardous conditions.
- Support spill protection, countermeasures and control incidents and cleanup.
- Maintain good housekeeping practices on equipment.
- Complete spill remediation and control techniques.
- Perform pre‑shift and post‑shift safety inspections and complete daily equipment reports. Report unsafe mechanical conditions to a supervisor.
- Other duties may be assigned.
To qualify, the following skills and experiences are required:
- Minimum high school diploma or GED.
- Class A CDL preferred.
- 1‑2+ years related experience preferred.
- Excellent safety record.
- Ability to identify, analyze and resolve problems.
- Ability to work safely and effectively in a team environment, as well as independently.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to work in adverse conditions.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
