DescriptionThe Family Home Visiting Educator is an advocate for families with native children in the home by supporting the development of happy, healthy, and successful First American children and families through a coordinated home-visiting strategy that addresses critical maternal and child health, development, early learning, family support, and child abuse and neglect prevention. This role works to support and strengthen collaborative cooperation by promoting linkages among various programs that serve pregnant women, expectant fathers, young children, and families, resulting in coordinated, comprehensive early childhood systems in Chickasaw communities.
Responsibilities- Recruit parents or caregivers to participate in the Tribal Home Visiting Program
- Visit young families in their homes or other community settings and teach a comprehensive parenting curriculum
- Provide social support and connect parents or caregivers to other community resources
- Maintain documentation requirements and enter data into the database
- Educate families on maternal and child health topics such as breastfeeding, safe sleep, preventing unintended child injuries, and nutrition
- Work with families to encourage early language development and early learning at home
- Teach positive parenting skills like reading, playing, and praising good behaviors
- Use evidence-based developmental and/or psychosocial screening tools during home visits at routine intervals to establish progress or identify risk
- Work with and provide resources to caregivers to set goals for the future, including continuing education, employment, food pantry services, and childcare solutions as needed
- Represent the Tribal Home Visiting Program and the organization’s other programs during community meetings and in-service presentations for community partners
- Host and facilitate parent connection groups
- Participate in meetings to ensure effective communication with staff, peers, supervisors, and management
- Provide first-class customer service to both internal and external customers and respond to inquiries, compliments, or complaints with professionalism, courtesy, and efficiency
- Complete all training and development requirements and participate in continuing education opportunities
- Work in a collaborative and supportive manner to support the productivity and safety of the work area, team members, and customers of all types
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and ensure a safe environment
- Maintain and promote professionalism
- Punctual and consistent in meeting start time, work schedule, attendance, and other assigned work time metrics
- Adhere to Chickasaw Nation dress code standards
- Maintain knowledge of and follow all rules, regulations, policies, and guidelines for the assigned area
- Perform all other duties as assigned
- Ability to practice appropriate boundaries, including no social media contacts with present or former individuals served
- Follow instructions, both written and oral
- Adhere to all scheduling and attendance requirements
- Good driving record and be insurable by the Chickasaw Nation
- Honesty, truthfulness, reliability, accountability
- Read, understand, apply, and retain knowledge of Chickasaw Nation, departmental, divisional, and all other rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and guidelines
- Knowledge of relevant privacy regulations such as the Privacy Act, Freedom of Information Act, and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
- Knowledge and understanding of First American populations
- Knowledge of child development, positive parenting supports, and community and family strengthening strategies
- Knowledge of cycle of abuse domestic, substance, mental, etc.
- Ability to multitask
- Establish professional working relationships as appropriate
- Plan, organize and follow through on assignments
- Communicate verbally in a professional and positive manner with other team members, departments, guests, and management
