Position: Substitute Bus Driver – District Employee Assigned to Afton Campus
Type: Non‑Exempt, Support, Substitute, 10‑Month Staff
Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor
Schedule: Monday through Friday; hours will be intermittent and vary with route. Supervisor retains right to adjust schedule.
Wage: $33.80 per hour
Responsibilities- Drive a school bus and safely transport high‑school students to and from Northeast Technology Center and partner high schools up to three times per day.
- Perform daily pre‑trip and post‑trip bus inspections following state guidelines.
- Maintain order, ensure compliance with state and federal transportation regulations, and keep the bus clean.
- Conduct bus evacuation drills as required by state law.
- Attend safety training videos or in‑person sessions quarterly and other professional development as needed.
- Perform additional bus‑ and route‑related duties as assigned by Supervisor or Superintendent.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Current valid Oklahoma School Bus Driving Certificate and a commercial driver’s license (air brake endorsement preferred).
- Completion of a school bus driver course and possession of a valid, current Oklahoma Commercial Driver License.
- Valid driver’s certificate meeting Oklahoma State Department of Education requirements.
- Pass a national criminal background check with fingerprints, a DOT physical exam, and a drug screening before employment.
- Annual health certificate signed by an Oklahoma‑licensed physician certifying fitness to operate a bus.
- Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds.
- Regular, punctual attendance; ability to work scheduled and extended hours, including evenings and weekends as necessary.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and with high‑school students.
- Computer skills preferred.

- Job performed outdoors while operating and inspecting bus.
- Standard office equipment may be used as needed.
- Moderate: lifting, cleaning, assisting students, and operating bus.
- Must be able to see, hear, walk, stand, lift, bend, reach, climb, stoop, squat, speak, breathe, learn, read, concentrate, think.
At‑will for first year; thereafter employment considered annually per Oklahoma law. Hourly wage set by board of education.
EvaluationPerformance evaluated annually per Oklahoma law and board policy.
