Overview
We collaborate with American Indian Tribes to plan, design, and construct water, wastewater, and solid waste facilities. The position is eligible for the IHS Student Loan Repayment Program based on IHS priorities and available funds.
DutiesThe incumbent will collaborate with tribes to increase and maintain access to sanitation facilities by:
- Performing planning, design, and construction oversight for community and individual water supply, wastewater, and solid waste facilities.
- Visiting tribal communities where projects are being planned and constructed.
- Reviewing work prepared by technical staff.
- Estimating costs and materials necessary to construct sanitation facilities.
- Preparing engineering reports.
- Selectee may be subject to a trial or probationary period.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Selective Service Registration required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Valid state driver’s license, REAL‑.
- Background investigation and E‑Verify employment verification required.
- Must present two valid forms of identification; if one is a state driver’s license, it must be REAL‑.
To qualify, the resume must state sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties of this position.
- Degree:
Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program, or a program that meets the specified curriculum requirements. - Combination of education and experience, including professional registration (EI, EIT, or PE) or a written test such as the Fundamentals of Engineering exam.
- Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences, including the specified courses.
- Relevant professional experience under the direction of a licensed professional engineer.
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, or
- Master’s degree in engineering or a related field, or two full years of graduate study leading to a master’s degree, or
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering with superior academic achievement and one year of appropriate professional experience, or
- Completed a five‑year program of study leading to a bachelor’s degree in engineering and one year of professional experience, or
- A combination of graduate level education and specialized experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements.
Applicants may be required to complete short essay responses (200 words or less) to four optional questions regarding commitment to the Constitution, skills to improve government efficiency, advancement of the President’s Executive Orders, and contribution of a strong work ethic. Responses are optional, may be reviewed, and applicants must certify they are written in their own words without the use of artificial intelligence tools.
This position may be covered by a Bargaining Unit. A one‑year service agreement may be required. Incentives for recruitment or relocation may be authorized.
