Position: Maintenance Technician, Mechanic I

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for troubleshooting and repairing mechanical equipment throughout the site, using personal decision‑making to ensure minimal disruption to the production process. The department provides services to the entire facility 7 days a week, and the Mechanic may be required to work in one or more plant areas, handling one or multiple assignments during any given work‑shift. Call‑ins are a requirement of this position.

The role demands a high level of self‑management, punctuality, good attendance, and the ability to adjust to a variety of assignments. This position works a 12‑hour rotating shift schedule.

Responsibilities
  • Repair, replacement and installation of equipment including pumps, screw conveyors, rotary valves, relief valves, motors, conveyors and its auxiliaries such as pipes, flanges, gaskets, mechanical seals, and filters.
  • Align, disassemble and rebuild production equipment such as reciprocating compressors, steam turbines, bearing members, gearboxes and pumps.
  • Utilize micrometers and calipers to repair equipment; operate drill press, hydraulic press, pedestal grinder, mill equipment and lathes.
  • Work independently or in small groups to install, repair and replace equipment including pumps, valves, motors and other process equipment.
  • Work independently or in pairs to repair equipment at the workstation using a variety of handheld tools, applying up to 100 pounds of torque to disassemble mechanical units.
  • Walk or stand upon various surfaces to transport materials, equipment and tools between work areas; stand approximately 5‑6 hours per day.
  • Climb up to five flights of stairs 3‑4 times a day to reach work areas; kneel, crouch or crawl to reach restricted access areas 1‑2 times daily.
  • Work in varying environmental conditions, primarily outdoors with temperatures ranging from
    -32°F to over 100°F; indoor temperatures can exceed 110°F.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 2 years of experience as a mechanic in an industrial or technical education setting.
  • Minimum 2 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing/industrial environment.
  • Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematics.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical equipment throughout the site.
  • Knowledge of valves, pumps and their alignment, repair and maintenance procedures.
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers; ability to operate drill press, hydraulic press, pedestal grinder, mill equipment and lathes.
  • Familiarity with reading and working from blueprints and/or single line drawings.
