DescriptionResponsible for direction of patient care in the peri-operative and immediate post-operative environment. Manages staff members in surgery, PACU and outpatient surgery areas at Council Oak Comprehensive Healthcare. Consults with staff, physicians, and chief nursing officer on nursing issues and interpretation of hospital policies to ensure patient needs are met. Maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in IOP activities.
Assists in formulating budget for department. Manages supplies and equipment used in operating, endoscopy and central sterile areas.
Education – Incumbent must be a graduate of an accredited professional school of nursing. (BSN) preferred, (MSN) desirable.
Experience – Five years of experience in a surgical environment with 3 years of progressive management experience.
Licenses & Certification – Possess Current State of Oklahoma RN Nursing License. BLS, ACLS, PALS certifications required.

Skills:
- Professional knowledge of nursing care principles, quality management, ethics, infection prevention practices and processes required to assess nursing needs of patients.
- Knowledge of health care practices, procedures, terminology, and technology as they relate to nursing and surgeon practices.
- Expert knowledge of current nursing standards of care in the Operating Room and throughout the organization.
- Ability to recognize and react to emergency situations.
- Principles and practices of effective management, supervision, and leadership.
- Principles and practices of quality assurance guidelines as they relate to health care field control and evaluation.
- Safety policies, procedures, and practices as they relate to nursing.
- Prepare and maintain records and reports.
- Analyze situations accurately and adopt an efficient course of action.
- Provide excellent customer service and establish and maintain working relationships with patients, staff, and physicians.

Work is performed in a hospital environment. There is common exposure to contagious disease. The work may include a certain amount of exposure to hostile and emotionally disturbed patients, families and visitors. Special attire may be required as protection against infection.
Physical DemandsLong periods of standing and walking. Working with patients requires recurring bending, lifting, squatting, stretching, and positioning of patients. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Must manage stress under many different circumstances.
