Apply mechanical aptitude to railcar inspections, repairs, and maintenance with Cando in an outdoor shop environment supporting rail transportation.
Railcar Repair Mechanics help ensure railcar and freight car equipment meets loading and transportation standards. You will inspect, repair, and maintain equipment while addressing safety concerns, completing reports, and supporting efficient operations. The position includes piping, valves, welding, braking systems, and preventative maintenance.
Key Responsibilities:- Inspect and repair railcars and freight car equipment
- Apply piping, valves, guards, shrouds, and covers
- Perform cutting, welding, grinding, soldering, and brazing
- Maintain trucks, structures, braking, and draft systems
- Report equipment problems and complete required documentation
- Good mechanical aptitude and railcar component knowledge
- Effective use of hand tools and equipment
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds
- Willingness to work outdoors in all weather
- Valid Class 5 driver’s and forklift licenses
