Tax Manager

Overview

Baker Tilly is a leading advisory, tax and assurance firm with offices across the U.S. and major global financial centers. This role is for a Tax Manager in our Kansas City office, focusing on middle‑market clients.

• Serve as a trusted advisor delivering tax, accounting, and advisory services to middle‑market clients.
• Conduct primary and secondary reviews of complex federal and state tax returns.
• Review and analyze clients’ accounting records, provide analysis and consultation, and communicate findings.
• Deliver best‑in‑class customer service, ensuring responsiveness, timeliness, and professionalism.
• Manage and build client relationships, act as liaison to resolve issues and support team leaders.
• Effectively delegate and oversee work, setting goals, providing resources, removing obstacles, and scheduling deadlines.
• Maintain knowledge of local, state, and federal tax practices and laws.
• Assist with client engagement staffing, billing, collections, and profitability targets.
• Use entrepreneurial skills to network, build strong relationships, and promote the firm.
• Invest in own professional development and support growth of team members through the Care and Teach philosophy.

• 5 years of experience in federal and state tax compliance, accounting, and advisory services.
• 4‑year degree; CPA, Law License, or Enrolled Agent preferred.
• Strong background in tax and accounting for middle‑market clients.
• Ability to lead and supervise associates, providing exceptional client service.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal, project‑management, and communication skills.
• Highly developed software and Microsoft Suite skills.
• Eligibility to work in the U.S. without sponsorship preferred.

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting; master’s or advanced degree desirable.
• CPA or JD preferred.
• 2+ years of supervisory experience, mentoring, and counseling associates.
• Demonstrated management and analytical capabilities, with a commitment to continuous learning.
• Experience with client engagement staffing, billings/collections, and profitability targets.

Pay range: $90,000 – $133,040, depending on experience and qualifications. Includes a comprehensive compensation and benefits package.
