POSITION TITLE:
Elementary Autism Teacher
DEPARTMENT:SPED
STATUS:Certified, Exempt – Contract
POSITION SUMMARY:This position is responsible for an elementary special education autism classroom. The person in this position is expected to plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program for an elementary environment that guides and encourages students to develop and grow. They must demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds. They will participate in professional activities as well as extracurricular and/or academic support activities.
This position is part of the elementary team and reports to the principal.
- Plan, prepare and deliver lessons to facilitate active learning.
- Instruct, encourage and monitor students’ learning—adjusting strategies as needed to optimize learning.
- Maintain accurate, complete records of students’ progress—including preparing all required related documentation.
- Participate and contribute as requested in meetings with department, school, district, parents and community.
- Manage student behavior and maintain discipline in accordance with district rules and procedures.
- Train and supervise para educators to support the learning of students.
- Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Kansas Teaching License:
Elementary Handicapped Unified, Adaptive Special Education (PreK-12), or Functional Special Education (PreK-12).

- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast‑paced work environment.
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability in compiling, organizing, and analyzing data.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, etc.).
This position requires the performance of medium work. The position involves exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The position requires visual acuity to perform work using a computer and other technology to support instruction. The position requires a frequent amount of grasping, talking, hearing, reaching, stooping, standing, walking, and feeling, an occasional amount of balancing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting, pushing and/or pulling, and some climbing.
Repetitive motion with a significant amount of fine finger dexterity is required in carrying out the essential duties of this position. The position is performed in a generally hazard‑free indoor environment and a clean atmosphere.
