Salary Range: $14.00 To $16.50 Hourly
Assistant Teacher:
Toddler Community (Ages 2–3)
Established in 1993, our Montessori program is dedicated to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional growth of the whole child. We provide an authentic Montessori experience that goes beyond standard childcare; we focus on stimulating exploration and fostering a lifelong love of learning. Our mission is to empower children to reach their full potential and become positive contributors to their community and the world.
The RoleThe Assistant Teacher is a vital guardian of the "prepared environment." In our classroom of 14 toddlers, you will work in close partnership with the Lead Teacher to protect the children’s concentration and support their burgeoning independence. You aren't just an "extra set of hands"—you are a model of grace and courtesy, helping our youngest learners navigate their first social community.
ResponsibilitiesEnvironmental Stewardship: Assist in maintaining a pristine, beautiful, and orderly Montessori environment. Ensure materials are complete, clean, and returned to their proper place on the shelves.
Supporting Independence: Guide children in "Practical Life" activities, including handwashing, dressing, and snack preparation, following the principle of "never help a child with a task at which he feels he can succeed."
Classroom Management: Use Montessori-based redirection and positive language to manage transitions and social interactions among 14 toddlers.
Observation & Documentation: Assist the Lead Teacher in observing the developmental milestones of students and documenting progress to help tailor individualized learning plans.
Safety & Routine: Supervise children during outdoor exploration and transitions, ensuring a safe, secure, and inclusive atmosphere at all times.
Collaboration: Participate in staff meetings and professional development to deepen your understanding of Montessori pedagogy.
QualificationsEducational Foundation: High school diploma or equivalent (Required);
Full or assistants Montessori certification (provided by Agape if not already obtained.)
Experience: Previous experience in an early childhood setting; a "toddler specialist" who understands the physical and emotional needs of two-year-olds. Montessori school experience is preferred.
Stamina & Reliability: Ability to work a consistent 40-hour week and remain physically active (lifting up to 35 lbs, sitting on the floor, and moving quickly).
Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with the teaching team and provide warm, professional updates to parents.
Compliance: Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and complete (or provide proof of) KDHE health and safety training, CPR, and First Aid.
The Ideal CandidateYou are a "calm in the storm." You understand that for a two-year-old, a spilled glass of water isn't a mess—it's a learning opportunity. You are patient, observant, and eager to grow within the Montessori philosophy.
