QualificationsEducation/Certification: Bachelor’s degree in education and an active Kansas teaching license.
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
Knowledge of content and instructional strategies; excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to instruct students and manage their behavior; ability to present information one‑on‑one, in small groups, and in large group situations to students, families, and district staff.
Major
Responsibilities and Duties:
• Instruct assigned classes at the designated locations and times.
• Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
• Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
• Prepare for assigned classes and provide written evidence of preparation upon request of administration.
• Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
• Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum standards by establishing clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicating these objectives to students.
• Employ a variety of instructional techniques, technology, and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the provided location and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
• Strive to implement, by instruction and action, the District’s philosophy of education and instructional standards.
• Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
• Continuously assess the needs of students and refer to the appropriate building‑level individuals when learning concerns have been identified.
• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by the teachers’ negotiated agreement, Board of Education policy, administrative regulation, and laws of the state of Kansas.
• Assist administration in implementing all policies and rules governing students. Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure.
• Make provision for being available to students and parents for education‑related purposes when required or requested at mutually agreeable times.
• Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for paraprofessionals and volunteers, and provide feedback to the building principal regarding their performance.
• Work cooperatively with staff on various tasks and/or assignments.
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None.
Physical and Mental DemandsTools/Equipment Used:
Standard office equipment including personal computer and phone, and standard classroom technology including computer and peripherals.
Posture:
Prolonged standing, frequent walking, pushing/pulling, occasional kneeling, squat, bending, or stooping. Frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching. Light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds) and occasional heavy lifting of objects.
Environment:
Primarily indoors; some outdoor student supervision.
Mental Demands:
Work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress, solve problems, make decisions.
Attendance:
Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance/punctuality as required by the Board of Education policies and regulations.
Background check, drug screen, TB test.
