Position: Assistant/Associate Dean for Osteopathic Integration

Job Description:

Reporting to the Dean for the College of Osteopathic Medicine, this role is to ensure the integration of Osteopathic Principles and Practices (OPP) and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) into the curricular efforts of the College, and to advance OMM and OPP into the professional and public communities supported and engaged with the College. The individual will also support and provide instruction specifically in OMM/NMM and integrate Osteopathy throughout the curriculum.

Specific

Responsibilities
  • Teaching (30%):
    Works with Department Chair to integrate and implement KansasCOM courses into a four-year, seamless curriculum using onsite, distance‑learning, local adjunct faculty and other standard and emerging pedagogies.
  • Review relevant KansasCOM curriculum to ensure the inclusion of OPP and OMM in its entirety and recommend pertinent changes and standards to the Dean, Course Directors and Department Chair.
  • Assist in monitoring the progress of all students to ensure successful opportunities exist for the inclusion and education of OPP and OMM principles that allow competency in the professional and foster progress toward graduation.
  • Teach in assigned courses.
  • Develop and deliver presentations to advance OMM/OPP to residents, physicians and the public to advance knowledge and competency of OMM in the public and professional domains.
  • Serve as a student mentor as assigned.
Administration (60%)
  • Responsible for integration of OMM/OPP throughout the curriculum, with an emphasis on opportunities for inclusion in clinical and GME or CME programs of the COM.
  • Responsible for faculty recruitment, education, evaluations and professional development to support the inclusion of OMM/OPP.
  • Participate in the administrative functions of the COM: policy evaluation and development, student advising, student and faculty recruitment and interviewing, peer review of faculty, committees as assigned, support accreditation functions for the COM, preparation and oversight of budget for the department, et.al.
  • Participate in community relations efforts to extend and enhance the visibility and reputation of the Department, KansasCOM, and KHSC.
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned.
Research and Scholarly Activity (10%)
  • Promote student research and scholarly activity with an emphasis on research engaging OMM/OPP.
  • Make contributions to the advancement of knowledge and the development of osteopathic medicine through scientific research.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Qualifications
  • Board Eligible/Certified DO or MD with appropriate training and skills.
  • Clinical experience practicing OMT within the specialty.
  • Graduate of an accredited College of Osteopathic Medicine or LCME.
  • Curricular and teaching experience, in formal and informal instruction, and learner supervision and evaluation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail oriented and possessing excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and desire/ability to learn course management software and distance learning technologies.
  • Ability to complete multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and exercise good judgment.
  • Examples of accomplishments, skills and publications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Board Certification/Board Eligibility through the American Osteopathic Board of Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine (AOBNMM) or dual certification in a primary specialty and NMM/OMM.
  • Board Certified ONMM, NMM‑OMM or C‑SPOM.
  • Experience as an instructor or course director of an OMM/OPP department or course.
  • Experience in teaching and/or research in a COCA‑accredited osteopathic medical school or college.
  • Experience or knowledge concerning GEM encompassing OMM/OPP.
  • Experience or knowledge concerning the development and delivery of CME encompassing OMM/OPP.
  • Experience in more than one clinical and/or preclinical discipline.
  • Experience in course development and curriculum integration at the predoctoral level.
