Montrose County School District seeks an inspiring music teacher to deliver secondary music education to students in grades 6‑12 and support the school’s music program. The teacher will guide students in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through marching band and movement to music experiences.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Teach and instruct instrumental music.
- Maintain responsibility for school‑owned music instruments and equipment.
- Use adopted course of study and program guidelines to develop lesson plans and outlines.
- Apply a variety of instructional methodologies, including lectures, demonstrations, and activities.
- Utilize educational equipment, materials, books, and other learning aids.
- Prepare and use instructional materials appropriate for pupils of diverse maturity levels.
- Analyze student progress to design individualized educational programs.
- Individualize instruction and adapt curriculum to enhance learning opportunities.
- Plan a balanced music program and manage daily class time for preparation and rehearsal.
- Establish behavior standards and use positive behavior strategies.
- Evaluate academic and social growth and report results.
- Administer, score, and record results of standardized tests.
- Counsel and communicate with parents, school, and district personnel about student progress.
- Collaborate with staff to assess student needs and develop remediation plans.
- Create an effective learning environment with appropriate displays and bulletin boards.
- Select and requisition educational supplies, books, equipment, and aids.
- Maintain a suitable room environment through control of heating, lighting, and ventilation.
- Perform additional non‑instructional duties such as curriculum development, student supervision, advisory, and consultation activities.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree required. Must hold a current State of Colorado Teachers License or obtain it within the first year of employment. Subject‑area endorsement in music preferred.
ExperienceAny combination of experience and training that qualifies for required knowledge and skills is acceptable. Typical pathways include successful completion of student teaching or two years of regular full‑time elementary‑level teaching experience.
