Paraprofessional - Deaf/Hard of Hearing

This position is responsible for assisting in the care, instruction, and supervision of students with additional needs in the classroom, resource room or self-contained classroom. This position is expected to assist in clerical tasks, monitor student behavior, and provide feedback. This position is part of the para educator team and reports to the certified staff.

Primary duties/responsibilities include accommodating individual educational program (IEP) students for class participation, assisting students with aggressive and challenging behaviors, attending in-service training, unit meetings, and workshops, implementing behavioral and educational plans designed by the IEP team, instructing students in group and individual settings to meet IEP goals, maintaining data providing accurate information regarding student progress, monitoring students providing a positive and safe environment conducive to learning, providing certified staff data and support regarding students' IEP development, supporting students in addressing personal care and restroom needs, and performing other duties as assigned.

Education and experience requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, 48 college hours or completion of Title I Assessments for para educators in Title I schools, and job-related experience is preferred.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include excellent listening, written and verbal communication skills, ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously, high degree of confidentiality, motivation, and responsibility, highly collaborative team player, proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, etc.), and 20-hour in-service training required annually.

Physical requirements include running, walking, sitting, standing, pushing and/or pulling; reaching forward and overhead, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending over, climbing and balancing on stools or stairs, carrying items across a room, and fine motor finger dexterity. Lifting requirements include lifting to 35 pounds independently and lifting 35 or more pounds with team or equipment assistance.
